Been back in contact with several removal firms who quoted last Oct to find all their costs have gone up. Not surprising considering increases in fuel but is £5300 a reasonable quote for a 40 ft er to Cambridge? This is with Britannia.

We had 3000+ last year for a 20' so don't suppose it is too bad. Have you tried Robinsons up in Manchester? There are a number of firms but it looks like you have had a few quotes, so take the best one for you.
Make sure the quote is door to door, if you know you in Cambridge you have an advantage.
Sure there are others on here who have shipped 40' boxes.
Good luck from us here in a cold damp Cambridge this morning :)

Sounds about the same as our lowest of three quotes, but check exactly what it includes. ie checking MAF fees (not MAFs themselves) etc

Hi
We have had a quote for £5k for removal and another £60 a week storage for a 20ft container which is not full, the quote also states we are not allowed to add to what they have already itemised is this reasonable?

We worried about adding extra stuff, asked the company who said don't worry too much unless loads of big stuff but in the end the packers took all the things we'd said we'd leave behind and weren't the least bit bothred and there was still plenty of space in the container. But I would be wary of what they've told you as surely everyone gets rid of some stuff and adds some?

I was under the impression that 20' containers were around the £3500 mark, £5K sounds a bit high to me. I'm sure that ours was no where near £5000.
Have you had more than one quote yet?

I can thoroughly endorse Brittania - they were brill for us. I think we paid just over £3000 for a 20 footer

Last year we had quotes ranging from £4300 to £5350 for a 40' container.....most were around £4800 mark.

Brill for us too altho' not received our stuff yet, but £5200 for 40 ft, so yours sounds too dear.

Thanks for this
I wonder if fuel prices have had a element to do with it also that we live in Cornwall a long way from the port (stuff would be stored in Truro ) and also aloowing for negoiating no more quotes left we had a wideboy from Crown around on Moday and a further 2 more next monday so wait and see I did think it was high this does not include storage or insurance or maf fees or the inital lift!

I think it is more expensive to ship from Cornwall, due to distance - we used Lanes/Brittania in Truro. Also a 20 ft container isn't half as cheap as a 40 footer, as there is still all the packing, paperwork etc. It is better value to get a 40foot container - but we would have struggled to fill it.
