Curio Bay in the Catlins:Perfect curve of sand on one side of the headland and stunning petrified-forest rock shelf on the other. If I had $2m plus I'd buy up the big tranche of coastal land for sale and not let anyone else build a house on it. Plus: penguins!
Fox Glacier: stunning, isolated, mystical and damp - and nowhere tasted as fresh.
Akaroa: OH loved the shape and roll of it and I loved the penguins. But I'd need a helicopter to go to New World regularly enough.
Next to Moorf's house: Fabulous company and stunning mountain views.

Stewart Island - cos then nobody would find me (and I might be able to afford a house with heating down there!)

Anywhere Immigration and the deporters wouldnt look for me! LOL
No seriously, i always dreamed of a quite little house/cottage with no neighbours within a mile say, and a view to die for. And somewhere that experiences all 4 seasons (or as close to).
Just me, maybe a dog or cat and mother nature to live in peace!
A little reclusive probably, but i am a private person.
Oh and of course it would need an internet connection! :nice1
EDIT: BUT right now anywhere with some damn heating would suffice...BRRR

Well, sorry to say the obvious but it has to be Christchurch, what an amazing looking place, a city with a town feel, views to die for, affordable housing. Harbour, beaches. Cannot wait

Lake Tekapo - We got married there so has a special place in our hearts :yes
Bit too quiet for my gang though - maybe we will retire there in years to come:D

For everything we want to do at this stage in our lives it has to be Christchurch for us.
If money was no object and didn't have to work for a living would probably be Wanaka so long as I had helicopter to fly back for Crusaders's games :D:D

Curio Bay gets it for me too.
Something magical about canoeing and surfing with dolphins.
A a gorgeous bay to boot.

Just on what I've seen so far either Wanaka, stunning views or Hokatika. Unfortunately when we visited SI we had a 7 and 9 year old with us so not quite as much exploring was done as we would have liked.

Golden Bay - Near Nelson, so lots of sun, and the views out over the Abel Tasman are wonderful!
Either that or a stone cottage in Central Otago

It would be Marlborough for us. It's a nice long way from any big cities plus it's not too touristy; it's got gorgeous scenery, very friendly people, plus excellent local wines, food and chocolate. :nice1
The West Coast is stunningly beautiful but the climate is very wet and it's probably a little too remote to live there permanently.

Tough question because we're more than happy where we are... but, if we could live anywhere I'd probably be further down South in Otago, Cromwell/Alexandra way, in a wee stone cottage on a hillside with lots of land and views and several dogs...

Odd, we agree with you there... one day, one day we may move into mountains...down that way Alexandra to Wanaka. The questions for us, will our kids can cope this, but then they already adapt into our lifestyles that our eldest couldn't wait to get home once we arrive into city :nice1

That sounds wonderful....as long as the cottage had room for plenty of shelves of books, there were plenty of colourful autumn leaves to crunch in (my favourite time of year) and real snow :)

Was that the one where there was a farmhouse that they used as a school and where they built several of prefab style wooden chalet things for other groups of people......sounds very familiar ????????

Know what you mean......it would be lovely not having to be relatively close to big city :roll But at least in NZ you can be in middle of nowhere within 1/2 hour rather than still being stuck in suburbs :)
