Isn't it always windy in Wellington?
When we were first offered jobs, we had a choice of office either in Auckland or Wellington. We chose Auckland party because we gathered the weather was better, and partly because we thought there's be more to do and more interesting things going on. Does this seem like a fair assessment?
I should add that the possibility of transferring to Wellington is still on, if we really don't like Auckland. When we arrive in NZ we're going to drive down to check the place out.

No its not always windy, it's just that when it is, it's very windy (mainly September and October).
Not sure about the weather being better in Auckland, it's generally more mild, more humid and more rain than Wellington (AFAIK).
There's still plenty of things going on in Wellington after all it is the capital.

Indeed, one big disadvantage of living in Wellington is the weather - but when the weather in Wellington would be better, then everyone would live there.
Since living in Blenheim, I must say that I do not miss the wind and the rain!
Cheers,

We're in Hawkes Bay right now, and were just talking about how we could see retiring here.

And it is sometimes windy in Wellington, and it rains too, but a large number of the days are drop dead gorgeous too! It's nice far and away more often than it isn't, and when it's nice it blows your mind.
It is a lot less humid than Auckland from what I can tell, and there are fairs and festivals and shows and markets and you name it happening every weekend. Since the whole city is so compact, it's easy to see what is happening, and we sometimes stumble on something fun just walking around. We never ever have trouble finding something fun to do. I am sure other Wellingtonians can agree with this!

The Coromandel wins my vote hands down, no contest. I might try and poison the incumbent Speech and language therapist there actually, but don't tell her.

We live in Hawkes Bay and absolutely love it!
The weather, scenery and lifestyle is fab...........vineyards everywhere, beautiful mountain scenery when its been snowing up on the mountain range..........its beautiful!
We have been to Wellington, and again beautiful but too busy for us.
Been also to Taupo, Rotorua and Mahia, fab places, the first 2 quite smelly. Mahia is abslutely beautiful.
Never been to Auckland yet!
UP to now, we say we settled in the right place.

Hawke's Bay without a doubt. Anywhere in the Bay but I have a real love for Napier. We live in a town 3/4 of an hour from Napier and with 2 kids, 11 and 14, we feel we have bought them more freedom here than if we lived in Napier itself. May move there in a few years when the boys are grown and gone. :)

Got to be Devonport; short ferry ride across the Harbour into Auckland city centre but with a nice village atmosphere and quite quiet.
Everytime we come home we wonder why anybody lives anywhere else in Auckland! :)

.
No
But don't tell everyone or they will all want to live here!
;)
we HAD to live in Welly because OH is a mainframer - but I feel we had a lucky escape.
Cant stand Auckland - sorry all you JAFAs.
To be honest - if I had the choice of anywhere..... I think either Kapiti Coast or the Wairarapa.
Or - maybe the best choice yet - 10 minutes drive from Smiler.
miss ya babe,

Wellington, hands down. Didn't like Auckland at all, too sprawly. Hawkes Bay was too sleepy when I went there, Taupo... I just had to wonder what all the fuss was about, utterly bored there. There again, I don't fish. ;) Rotorua, wasn't there for long enough, but yeah it smells! :laugh

Isn't it always windy in Wellington?
Propaganda. ;)
It's generally no windier than the UK, it's just that when it blows, it really goes for it. This is more entertaining than it is annoying. Ian mentioned September and October, these are traditionally the windiest months, it's when westerlies get really strong because the temperature difference between the equator and the pole is the largest. Auckland is also windy at these times.
When we were first offered jobs, we had a choice of office either in Auckland or Wellington. We chose Auckland party because we gathered the weather was better, and partly because we thought there's be more to do and more interesting things going on. Does this seem like a fair assessment?
Auckland, on average is about 3C warmer than Wellington. This does make a difference, and it's more humid.
But compared with Wellington: In Auckland it rains more, and more often, and it is less sunny.
In general there is not more going on in Auckland than in Wellington. The capital is more compact, it seems to be more alive, and once you get outside the centre of Auckland it's fairly generic stuff.
