Which is the most productive method of fishing - river for trout or sea fishing (i'm looking at it from a food point of view). I assume it depends on location but if anyone could give me any information about the two I'd be grateful.

I'm moving in New Zealand in September and I have a end of job gift being bought for me so I thought a fishing rig might be around the right price but I can't decide whether to go for a fly rod or a surf caster... decisions decisions :)

Well if you spot my hubby fishing I strongly suggest you go somewhere else............. the fish always do! He hasn't even caught one in all the 7 years I've known him :no

Hi rbx
Difficult decision, and yes it does very much depend on location within NZ.
I have included a link to a site that will give you heaps of info about trout fishing for the whole of NZ.
From a food point of view, you can't beat manuka smoked trout it's yummy.
All the best with your decision.

If you want the fishing to be more about catching than fishing, then have a look at this site about using kites and kontikis.

I don't have personal experience of using these systems, but I know people that do, and they swear by them.
