We received this leaflet from INZ titled 'THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR NEW ZEALAND' and it has a list of essential documents to bring.
It recommends to bring medical, immunisation, vaccination and dental records.
Is that really necessary? We are both in good health (how else to pass the tests?) and I would not know what I would need it for.
What do you recommend?
Do we need those documents to get into the country or are they just nice-to-hvae?

Hi

From our limited experience, a copy of the medicals may come useful; we were asked to provide one for the purpose of a life insurance policy. A dental record is advisable if you have a long history of (or on-going) problems. Anyway, neither is a 'must'.

Agreed. We found the medical and especially the vaccination records good to have.

Hmm, we never kept a copy of our medical...wonder if we'll get it back from NZIS.

We never brought any medical or dental records with us for anyone in the family and have never had any trouble at dentists or doctors, so you can definitely get by without them.

We did try to get dental records from the UK but were told that they don't provide them and the new dentist would just start fresh, but this may just have been our dentists?

My advice would be to ask for them if you can, but don't worry if you don't.

Of course if you did have a complex history then I would do my best to get them.

This is exactly what we were told, that a new dentist in NZ would start from scratch, I have just been on the phone to my GP and for a small fee £10, they would do a computer print out of our families history for us too take and to ring them 2 weeks before we leave.

My dentist said they'd be happy to provide records. It's a non-NHS dentist though, so they'll do whatever you ask as long as you're prepared to pay for it!

We brought the kids health books issued when they were born and has all their immunisations in it - was asked for it at kindy when registering the wee man and maybe at school too though not sure :)

We bought our son's 'red book' that we got when he was born as it has all his immunisation records in it. The school needed a copy of the relevant page when he started. It also meant that the GP we registered with knew exactly what he had had and what he needed - a course of Hep B injections.

We also paid for a complete set of medical records for all three of us from our UK GP. Not sure if it was worth the money as neither OH or I have particularly complicated medical histories but our GP here now has them.

Didn't even think about bringing dental records as every dentist I have ever been registered with has always started from scratch.

We didn't need our dental records - as has been said, they like to start afresh. I have a sneaky feeling they like to have a quick pop at the standard of work too. NHS, sharp intake of breath and tutting too. As for the medical records, all they wanted here was a fax number to contact our GP in the UK themselves.

Thanks for all your answers. No need to worry about that then :)
