Hi, My Husband and I and 2 kids (2.5yr old boy and 9.5month old girl) are planning to move to NZ sometime between now and the new year. OH is in the process of applying for jobs (thankfully the process is a lot easier for us with the rules for aussie citizens living and working in NZ), so at the moment we don't know exactly where we will be moving too, could be either Hamilton, Wellington or Christchurch at the moment. Christchurch is our preferred destination.
I've been doing quite a bit of looking at the forum and would be keen to hear from other Aussies who have made the move or are thinking about making the move.

We're not Aussies but just wanted to welcome you to the forum... there's plenty of helpful folk on board who can assist with questions, etc. so don't hesitate to fire away!!!
We're hoping to make it to Christchurch as it ticks all the right boxes for us 3... depends on whether OH can land a renal nursing job at the hospital though, should know something within the next couple of months.
Best of luck with your plans :nice1

Hi there,
We are not aussies but have lived in Australia. I am English and my hubby Kiwi, we met in Australia and now live in england (comlicated eh !!!).
Anyway, we lived in Brisbane for 2 years and my hubby lived in Perth for 12 years prior to that. Out of interest why are you going to NZ?
We are planning to leave England end of the year, we know what Aus can offer but are considering NZ for a bit of a change, either Wellington or Christchurch. But is hard to let go of Aus when we know how great it is there.
If we choose NZ we are hoping for a slower pace of life with hopefully some land, we have 2 kids, 4 year old daughter and a 10month old son. NZ we are thinking will give them freedom in their early years.

Why on earth are you coming here? We have a mass exodus the other way at the moment. Have you considered Tassie?

Well there are a few reasons:
-we have always liked the idea of living overseas for a few years and it is easiest to do this while the kids are young
-NZ is only a 3hr flight away so easy for grandparents come visit and visa versa
-we are outdoors kind of people and there is a lot of bushwalking (or tramping as kiwi's call it) that we can do there
-as Aussies we can work, live etc. without the messy business of visas
-we want to live somewhere which is a bit more affordable than Brisbane

Just out of interest do you se this as a long term thing or just for a few years? It is unusual to see Aussies going to NZ, is good to see.
We are going to give NZ a try, why not we think while we have young children, if it dosent suit then OH if Aus citizen so we will go to Aus.
But we are hoping that NZ will be all we hope it willl be.
We loved Brisbane when we lived there but humidity killed me!!!
Anyway, good luck, when do you think you will move?

At the moment we are thinking max 10 years. I think it will be closer to 5 years. And we will move as soon as OH has a job.
You should have been in brisbane this past summer, it was the mildest both heat and humidity wise that I can remember. We kept on waiting for the stinking hot weather to come, but it never did.

Hi all again,
Just thought I'd renew my hello and let you all know we are definitely making the move!!!! Salary negotiations went well and OH has accepted a position in Hamilton. So now the madness is going to begin. Packing, booking flights, organising birthday parties (my daughter turns 1 on the 19th Aug). So no doubt I will be probably posting a lot of questions in the next few months. I find this forum the greatest!!!

4 Weeks!! Hell, I am panicking about 18 months! I need to learn to chill out...:laugh
I would be interested to know Melly, if you don't mind, who you are using to ship your stuff over and how much it cost, we got one quote, but hubby did that, I don't know who it's through.
Also, do you have any pets you are taking too? I have a small dog to bring..
By the way, I was up that early!!!! My kids take forever to get ready for school..:laugh
Mish :cheers
