Hi all,
We're looking at HRV systems that use heat exchangers to use the warm indoor air to heat the cold outdoor air. The advantage of these systems is that they aren't pulling "warm" dusty air in from the attic, but instead utilizing the heat that we've paid for or created from our wood burner to warm the incoming outdoor air. Because of the exchanger system, these are more expensive than the HRV/DVS type products you see, but I believe long term are healthier and more efficient solutions.
We just received an official quote from one company that originally estimated over the phone of about $5500 for our size of home and number of bedrooms. The official quote is almost 25% more than the estimate which seems like a pretty large variance for someone who has been in this business for many years and sold lots of these products.
It has me wondering if this is a case of fleecing the "rich" American or if it's truly in line with what others are paying. Maybe I'm just too paranoid, but it would help to have some reassurance that we're getting a fair price.
