We are deciding between Welly and Cch, we have seen that Welly has a coastline up in Kapiti, how is Christchurch for coastline? Can you swim at the beaches? And if so, do you get enough nice weather to do it?

Both areas have pretty nice beaches....awesome beaches by UK standards :D

The water up Kapiti will be a few degrees warmer than around Christchurch. IMO, swimming around the Christchurch area is probably *somewhat* marginal except for late January to mid March. It will always feel a bit chilly, but on the otherhand, Christchurch will have the greater number of "hot" days than Kapiti. More likely to find a day over 30C in Canterbury than you are in Kapiti, so the colder water might be just what you're looking for.
