Hi all,

I just received notification of a teaching job and the advert reads as follows:

Director of international students, 2MU, permanent position to commence
on Monday, 28 July. Regraded position, no actual vacancy.

I can only assume that it is a legal requirement that if a position is regraded then it has to be advertised, despite someone already being in the role.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

I've been looking through adverts for teaching jobs and have seen this quite alot. I don't know what it means either, I had assumed the same as you!

Yep. You're right. Every job has to be advertised even if it is filled from within the school. It's a much better system than in the UK where jobs have to be advertised but candidates are invited for interview anyway (stress, cost, time etc) only to find that there is an 'internal candidate' who is odds on to get it . And when an 'outsider' does pip the local boy to the post, it can be a horribly unsettling experience all round.

Signed

A Teacher!

Thank you lockstock. At least now I know what not to apply for.

.......or to apply for just for the experience of having an interview. Could be a valuable learning curve, especially if you know there isn't any pressure on you if the job has 'already gone'. Just a thought :D

I don't even think they take it to application stage.

Aaaaaahhh now I see what you mean. Oh how annoying if you see the dream job you've always wanted and it's already gone :roll

I do know a company in Uk who used to 'advertise' a position if it was already filled internally, in a small Scottish newspaper to cover themselves.

in a small Scottish newspaper

All Scottish newspapers are small, otherwise you can't fit them in a sporran.

Well it can't have been that small if they used it to cover themselves:exit
