Hello All,

I too have been lurking here for a while and have found some invaluable info, so thanks! Hopefully I can do my bit one day. It's been a long road so far for us - 1 year and counting, after attempting to go to Australia and gave up(OH at age 48 was a problem - long and boring story) I put it down to fate as NZ is now our favourite anyway. So, after a long search OH has accepted a job offer in Blenheim as a carpenter and we're heading that way as soon as medicals and work permits allow. NZQA assessment still in progress so can't submit EOI until we are there. I'm interested to know if anyone else has done it this way round?

Ok so what to do now? Panic!!! I hope we aren't simply crazy. We have been to NZ only once but loved it. The only reason we opted for Aus was because we have friends and (distant) relatives there. OK, and the warmer weather in Aus. I'm still a bit wary about the cold houses in NZ - especially stumbling across a thread discussing just that today! Hot water bottles at the ready.

We have two sons ages 11 and 14 who have been asking "When are we going to New Zealand" for what seems like ages. Hopefully we can soon say the flights are booked.

Welcome, you can get over the cold house issue, is is just that we are so cosseted in the UK with CH/DG! And not every house in the UK has it that's for sure (my MIL's doesn't and we staying there in a few weeks time so will not notice it I suppose hahaha)

Blenheim is where our friend lives now and she loves it after moving there from Wellington.

Good luck to you.

Thanks all for the nice comments. Forums always seemed a bit scary to me but everyone here seems really friendly so I thought I'd take the plunge!

We're from Guildford (ish) Mels...and you?:

Hello and welcome.
If I can offer one bit of advice, find out as much about the kind of paperwork you will need for your ITA (birth certificates etc) and try and get them sorted out before you go where possible, this will save you some hassle :)

Hi and welcome to the madhouse (sorry forum). :D I lived in a house in the UK without CH/DG (albeit about 10 years ago). I guess the big difference is the way the houses are built without any insulation. Insulating our house is high on the list of priorities for us once OH starts working again.

As "Dusk" has said, while you're waiting for NZQA I would make sure you have all the necessary paperwork to submit your EOI.

There are worse places! We made a list today of things to do before we go so I'm sure I can think of lots of questions to post!
