Wow - I can't believe how cheap fresh fish is here. Today we bought a gorgeous Monkfish fillet from the Pak n Save fresh fish counter for $6.39. It was big enough for the two of us and was delicious. In the U.K., I'm sure we'd have paid about the same price in pounds.

Yep alot of white fish is cheaper here, but salmon is the other way, usually more expensive that in the UK.

who cares about Salmon when you have all this other gorgeous fish :)
And just go and catch a few trout, cover them with brown sugar, throw them in the smoker and you got another fantastic dish. :laugh

Have you looked at the price per kilo? Snapper is about the same price as fillet steak!

Forget about Salmon and Snapper, it is Monkfish and Shrimps 24/7 for me! And for those who live in Wellington, there is a boat in the harbour every Sunday (near the Farmers market) which sells a kg of Monkfish for $10!!! Yummy.

Hi
In Wellington there are two farmer markets bang in the centre. One is on the corner of Victoria and Vivian and the other is between Te Papa and New World (the former for culture, the latter for everything else). Both are open from very early to about 14:00 and you can find veggies and fruits for half (if not less) the price in New World, lovely home-baked breads and cakes, Chinese buns, tofu & noodles and more. There is free parking too. Our favourite early-Sunday excursion!
