We received our in-zone application pack yesterday for son to go up to College and daughter's one for Intermediate should be here this week, so now is the time to be contacting schools about admissions for Feb 2009. Just thought I'd flag this one up!

Yup thanks Gil, we have to get our backsides into gear on this as well, Kieran will be going to high school next year (! where did that time go?) and we have to contact the school once we get back from UK.

A timely reminder :nice1

Thank you for that!

When would I need to start looking for feb 2010? We are off to Christchurch again in April next year, I guess I could start gathering info then..?

One daughter will be intermediate-that's what I'm scared of...

I haven't been able to do much as my laptop was stolen a couple of months ago, and the process of changing everything and using my old computer plus dial up is very offputting..:wah

I would recommend doing research as soon as you like (or are able to!) mish&al, but the time to make your application will be June 2009 onwards for Feb 2010 entry.

Sorry i can't help with Chch schools personally, but if you have a look at http://www.tki.org.nz/e/schools/index.php you should find the names and addresses and websites for all schools in the area.

We're putting our kids names down now - eldest has got about 4 years before he starts but some of the schools already have waiting lists :uhoh While others only taken applications from the July time.

Worth having a look at all the available schools in the area to. Surprising to hear most of my kiwi friends are considering different schools for each child, depending on their needs. For us this was totally different to what our friends were going to do in the UK, just send them to the local school or the school in the catchment area.

I've just completed the forms for Emerson to start next Feb (:wah my baby going to school, what am i going to do all day with no one to play with?)

The high schools we are looking at for Ayrton are doing open days July and Aug so we can have a look first and then fill in enrolment forms from then.

Definatly worth checking the site Gil mentioned - this will point you to the schools website which will give you information on enrolment proceedures.

Thanks guys,

We would prefer end of this year, but should be by end of next year.

Can't believe you have to apply to some in june for the next year, don't even know what area we will live in yet!

Breathe, one step at a time, breathe......

June is the "formal" time to apply, when the bulk of in-zone applications are made. You can, of course, contact a school at any time and they are usually most helpful. If you arrive mid-year, the school whose zone you live in has to take your children, regardless of time of year, so don't worry unduly.
