Hello everybody

Has anyone brought a NZ business to immigrate, or moved there business over to NZ?

My parents bought a business to get their PR, and I'm selling one that I have set up with visa applicants in mind.

I see that you have 135 points on your EOI, this should make getting in pretty trouble-free. Using the Long Term Business Visa route is alot of work and tends to only be used by those that can't muster the points but have management skills to make up for it. Plus it commits you to the business for at least 2 years, which doesn't suit everyone. If you had a handover date for a business that you had bought you might be able to twist NZIS's arm to let you in a little bit sooner, but there are no guarantees.

What sort of agriculture does your wife do? I might be able to point you to an area of the country that specialises in that field.

Thanks for your response Nick88. Very encouraging to hear that that our points are probably adequate. We are still keen to try to get jobs just so that they can't turn us down! My wife has heaps of experience in dairy and sheep farming but is also very good at driving machinery. We were considering two areas: Waikato and the Bay of Plenty, but we aren't set on those areas. Any advice would be appreciated!

Dairying is certainly alot more active than sheep these days. Many sheep farms on the south island are being converted to dairy for the better returns. Fleece and sheepmeat prices are not what they once were.

Best areas for dairying? Most of the north island, really, apart from the bit south of Hawkes Bay to Wellington (on the east coast), it's too dry. The further north you go the longer the grass growing season. On the SI it's a bit patchy, but mostly concentrated in Canterbury, where there is irrigation. The best thing I can think of is the look at the Fonterra website and see where they have concentrated their activity/ have the main processing plants. I just googled 'dairying nz' and there was lots to read, enough to fill the weekend, anyway.

Where did your wife study? I was at Wye.

It would be the North Island where we would ideally like to be.
I use to be a gamekeeper so i love forests and lakes.
What year was you at Wye, I know a few who went there?
My wife did her degree at Harper Adams, we've just sent the forms in, to get her qualification reconised.
Are you in the farming world yourself?

I was at Wye from 86-89, studying Hortic, same for my wife. We now live near Whangarei growing houseplants. We are selling our nursery and planning to do a bit of traveling before starting something new. I have just added my website to my signature, so you can see what we fritter our time away on.

[Edit] The sig change doesn't seem to be showing up for me, anyway we are at www.kentia.co.nz
