I would really, really like to see double glazing in NZ. BUT.....Please don't let them do a telesales thing on it.

I had completely forgotten how many sales telephone calls there are in the UK. I have had about 3 double glazing/home improvement calls in 2 weeks, I have had several calls about upgrading the phone system or mobile phones and several you have won a holiday type, and I have only been here 2 weeks and I have been out a lot of that time.

I can't remember getting any of these type of calls in NZ maybe cos we aren't in the book yet. but I have a feeling theat they aren't quite into that marketing yet thank goodness.

That is one part where I appreciate the Oregon/Federal government. We have a national do not call registry and telemarketers are fined $10,000 per call if they dial a number listed. Of course I use the poor man's caller ID (I let the machine get it) as the only ones who have my home phone are my and my wife's parents.

There is a similar service in the UK - its the Telephone Preference Service and you can find out more here: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

You can also register with the MPS (Mail Preference Service): http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/

I worked with Direct Marketing agencies for years and we had to be very careful to dedupe mailing and telemarketing lists against the TPS and MPS lists and any reputable company will do this so you should never get junk mail and cold calls again.

Funny you should mention this Veronica. I have been at home all afternoon while Mark took the boys out (to the bank of all places - but that's another story).

I've answered no less than 4 marketing calls today between about 2.30 and 5.00: 1 from Barclays, 1 from British Gas, 1 from some consumer research group and another from some loan company offering us about 100k :no :no :no

I always immediately ask "is it a marketing call", but have to admit I never really give them time to answer.

Actually have received calls like this during a Sunday lunch time ..... idiots.

Just ask them to hold... put the phone down.. and return in about 15 mins.. they'll be gone

Alternatively, see my post above ^ and register with them... :nice1

Moorf - we did that once ..... would you believe that after about 20 mins the prat was still holding.

In the end I put the phone down ..... blow me down, within about 30 seconds to t**t had called back suggesting we 'got cut off'.

Being paid commission only makes them into resilliant little devils.
