All my friends would tell you, I like my food. On our recce visit I fell in love with L&P and beetroot on burgers. What other Kiwi treats do I absolutely have to try?

Steak and Cheese pie - my personal recommendation is from the 'Post Office' in Hamner Springs.

Croissants from the bakery in Kaikoura - huge mama's and really scrummy

Wine - tour the vineyards of Marlborough

Green lip mussels from the Mussel Buoys in Picton - their chips are fab too.

Chocolate Fish, Perkynanas and Pinkys. Mmmmm.

The pies are great too as they aren't like horrible English pies with far too much gravy.

Passion fruit cheesecake from the Deli on the Corner in Cambridge, Pineapple lumps, all the Monteiths beer range, feijoas... i could go on :)

Whitebait fritters (nothing like those big crispy whitebaits you get in the U.K as starters!!)

Oh, and is it just me, or is the coffee served at the Wild Bean (BP garages?) really nice!!

Very good point - my middle child never touched fruit or veg in the Uk and now he eats loads.....am sure it's because it's so much tastier !

I have to stand up for the poor sausage here, there are some fantastic sausages to be had, not the ones that taste like veggiemite flavoured sawdust, but the real alpine pork/venison etc.

Forgot Jaffas too and Jelly Aeroplanes :P

Ditto StevieD with the sausages - I think the ones here are pretty yum. I had a sausage in the UK and it tasted all bready and bland, absolutely no substance to it whatsoever.

I love Whittakers orange chocolate. And the ginger one. And, I have to admit, I also quite like Snifters!

OK, what the heck are snifters?? Is there some yummy choccy treat I am missing otu one???

KerryS

Snifters are little sweets - sold in bags usually. They're chocolate in a green coloured shell, with a chewy mint centre. Sound vile (and I expect most people think they are!), but I love them.

I'd like to stick up for sausages as well as there are good ones to be found - if my fussy DS will eat them then they must be OK. We get ours from Janssens butchers in Browns Bay.

I'm quite a fan of Moro Gold bars, Tim Tams and Pods Snickers. I luuurve Hokey Pokey ice cream too.

Whittakers chocolate is great but pineapple lumps and perkynana are, imho, both totally disgusting

Blackball sausages are great, especially when you buy them direct from the shop where they are made (which is in Blackball, of course:D)

The cheese sold at our local farmers' market is very good too.

just had them for tea tonight while kids (not baby, he had sausage instead) had fish fingers! very nice sausages, brought from our local's new world, not cheap but not filled with rubbish like additive etc, also it is egg and milk free.

Okay clearly I am missing out on something here and I do love all things savoury - what are these scrolls you speak of??

Details please

Just for the record for us it's ice-cream, huge portions but my personal favourite is boysenberry. And some of the best fish and chips we've ever had :nice1

Not available in shops, but promised by a friend of ours at a party on Sunday that she is going to treat me to some of her brothers fare - venison and wild boar - when they return from their next hunting trip. It seems that they are quite a pair of chefs and deal out all sorts of lovely dishes.

I like the beef here too, so cheap and great quality.

While we were on our recce last year we had apple crumble pizza from the local Pizza Hut - surprisingly wonderful and one of the few things I miss more than looking out of the window and seeing mountains. Wish they did it over here! (or that we could move over sooner)

Oh Pizza! How did I forget Hells Pizza (www.hell.co.nz)? I adore the corn nuggets that they do. We don't even consider ordering from Dominoes or Pizza Hut these days.

I agree with some said above

L & P is gorgeous and I also love Hell Pizza. Whenever I get a pizza now I get camembert nuggets too. MMMm, deep fried cheese!

Oddly enough I think the Cadbury's chocolate here is much nicer than home when most Irish people say thay missed proper choccy when in NZ. The dairy milk with crunchi is the best.

Also, grainwaves crisps. They are awesome!

I've also got a real taste for milo. I don't drink tea or coffee and usually have hot chocolate. Having a milo is much nicer and my oh makes me some every night now before I go to bed.
