Well we leave on Friday for our recce visit and we are really looking forward to it. Leave Friday with a stopover in Hong Kong. Arrive Auckland Tuesday then on to Napier on Wednesday.
Plan to spend most time in Hawke's Bay looking round and have hired a car (give way to right - scary!).
Jo has a meeting with someone in HR in Hastings hospital and I have arranged to meet up with a dentist with a few practices so we can get a feel for the jobs.
Looking forward to touring the wineries and Jo is really looking forward to nosing round some open houses!!
Hopefully we can get a bit of the feel for the area but it'll be difficult as we can only spend a week in the bay due to work commitments.
Does anyone have suggestions for our stopover in HK and our 2 days in Auckland?
Will let you know how we got on when we return
Cheers
Stevie

Good luck. Remember it's only give way to oncoming traffic trying to turn right while you are trying to turn left down the same road. Watch the speed limit. BTW, OH has lost another filling. No chance of you nipping up to Hamilton I suppose...:exit

What to see in Auckland (some possibilities among MANY) - the Museum (with vg Maori performance), One Tree Hill or one of the other volcanoes for the view(s), ditto the Sky Tower, the zoo (with special bit for native fauna - inc. see a kiwi - and flora), Western Springs park right next door, with black swans and very tame pukekos, and the other side of the park, the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT). Out on the other side of town, Kelly Tarlton's (sea life exhibition - fantastic). Notice the harbour bridge (with the Nippon clip-ons). Places to eat - we never did it, but people recommend the revolving restaurant at the top of the Sky Tower. Various places on Queen Street - food halls are good, and really reasonable. De Fontein at Mission Bay (a little farther round east from Kelly Tarlton's).
Only two days?:D

In Auckland I recommend going for lunch up the Sky Tower at the Observatory restaurant. Its buffet style but really lovely food and you get to go up to the observation decks 30 mins pre and post your lunch so works out better value than just paying to go up to have a look.
However from memory I think its only open on Fridays and Saturdays for lunch. Might be open other days for dinner.
Enjoy your trip!

We were told, but didn't manage to fit it in, to book and go for dinner at the right moment for sunset - apparently, that's really beautiful.
