My husband and I are going to Auckland this weekend, and I was wondering which shopping centre you Aucklanders would recommend visiting?
Do they get horrendously busy on Saturdays? If so, are there any that are quieter than others (while still being good)?
We're staying on Queen Street, and have to be at Eden Park before 5 pm.
As for the types of shops I want to go to, I want to go to them all!
Cheers!

I would suggest Newmarket, Broadway... there is a Westfield at 277, and shops along the road too along with cafes and a Wagamamas on Nuffield Street (runs paralell to Broadway)...
If you want to travel a bit out then come out to Sylvia Park, its got a train station, every half hour from the britomart (its a half hour journey)... (Hmm come to think of it a Wagamamas there too....) Sylvia park is huge and has a Kookai amongst other treats...

Newmarket over Sylvia Park for me. There are more individual stores, especially down the side streets.
Easy to get to on the Link from Queen Street too.
Do you want a girly shopping buddy? I'm about on Saturday if your husband doesn't want to be dragged round all the stores with you.

Oooh, thank you everyone. I have been to Newmarket before, but both trips were very short and we didn't stray off the main street, and missed the Westfield completely! I think I'll give it another go - how exciting!
Kerry, thanks for the offer, that's really lovely of you. Sadly, this is less of a girly shopping trip and more of a house-stuff trip (I'm still excited though - shops are shops after all! And I'm hoping to sneak in some clothes shops, too...) Luckily, my husband doesn't mind being dragged round the shops, and he's very useful for carrying bags. I've promised him that if he's good, we can go to the spear-fishing shop afterwards. But next time I come to Auckland on a girly shopping trip, I'd love to take you up on your offer.

If it's house hold treats you need make sure you go to 'Nest'. It's at the top end of the strip on Nuffield St. I'd also like to point out it's worth going to Newmarket just for Nuffield St. It took me about 4 trips before I even realised it was there :o

p.s Saturday must be 'the' day for shopping in Newmarket, cause Ill be there too

Gotta agree....Newmarket not only has a well stocked shopping centre, but there is a really good variety of shops on the surrounding streets aswell, and if you can't get parkied in any of the main car parks, there is always extra places in the surrounding streets of houses...all less than 5 minutes walk away. Only been to sylvia park twice, but it seems well laid out and has everything...but looks like car parking might be more of an issue. There is also the new Westfield in Albany and the Mega Centre too....not (quite) as much choice, but much less busy, plenty of parking, but probably a bit out of your way.

I like Sylvia Park (in as much as I like shopping centres which isn't hugely in any case). But you have to get there before 11am on a Saturday, otherwise parking can become an issue indeed. Especially if it's raining.

Jojo - you're on. Let me know next time you're coming up and we can shop til you drop! (And anyone else if they fancy joining us...)
Agree with MillieMoo, Nest has some lovely stuff, lots of Habitat things. (I got a gorgeous bedroom rug in there a couple of weeks ago.) They've got a website if you want to get an idea of their stuff.
Newmarket also has Freedom, which is on Broadway heading towards Parnell, opposite The Warehouse.
There's also InHouse furniture up on Remuera Road, which has nice things for good prices.
If you've got the time I'd wander along Ponsonby Road too, as there are loads of houseware and decorative item type stores there.
