UK has Ray Mears
Aus has Bush Tucker Man (Les Hiddens?)
Who's the equivalent in NZ?
PS Saw a programme last week where Ray Mears met BushTucker Man in Aus! Brilliant.
Ray Mears has done a few programmes about Aus, any sign he is calling in to NZ?

He was in NZ tonight on Dave. Only caught the last couple of minutes though. He was cooking crayfish in kelp leaves.

Surely he did some stuff in NZ quite some time ago? - three or four years? I can remember him showing a Maori family how to make fire using a bow-drill. They knew that their ancestors used to do it, but hadn't passed down exactly HOW.

No, I've seen all his programmes (I think) and it was some Amazonian Indians that he was reteaching how to make fire with sticks. I don't recall any programmes where he's been to NZ, and there isn't a NZ version of him as far as I know. We are all big fans, although I wish I could do a bit of a Trinny and Susannah on him - the shorts have got to go!

I'm sure every Kiwi bloke sees himself as a bit Ray Mears.
Not that this helps!

Well, I can definitely remember Maoris (I'm certain because of the NZ-loaded interest, and the carvings etc. in the marae). So if it wasn't Ray Mears, it must have been some other live-off-the-land bloke - dunno who.

HI YouMeandThree...took me a while to work out what Dave was:D
Lee...what a claim to fame...mind you what did he need electrics for. Doesn't he rub sticks for fire at home?
In the Ray and Bush Tucker man show it came over what a nice person each were...really appreciating each others knowledge and experiences. Obviously got on very well together and both had a real laugh. Ray was even able to show BTman how a certain fungus could be used for fire lighting that Les didnt know about.
I was hoping that there was NZ equivalent out there somewhere???
Wouldn't someone like to take up the challenge:D

Oh, I didn't see the above post in time, but managed to catch the last ten minutes.
Maoris catching crayfish, urchins etc and cooking in kelp pouches over the fire on the beach, lovely!
Anyone know if/when it will be repeated?
