(Apologies if this has been posted before...) The ERO website has a very informative publication called "Choosing a School for a Five Year Old", would be useful for choosing a primary school for older kids too I think. It tells you what to look for & explains some of the jargon (probably other stuff too but I have to admit to only reading half of it so far).
