Hi i have been in NZ with my partner on a working holiday visa for almost a year and our visa runs out beginning of August so we are applying for a work permit/visa to stay another 2/3 years. I have some small advice that may benefit some people or may not but here goes
For a start do not leave a work permit/visa until 3 months before your visa expires!! Especially if you are applying within NZ. It may seem like ample time but it isnt and really adds on alot of unneeded stress to the visa process especially applying for a police check which can take time
Englands ACPO - for a police check we found no issuses with them, we used the 2 day express service which is great they even emailed us to say that they needed a 2nd proof or address which we could email back to me rather then post which was good.
City med located on Albert Street in Auckland as a medical place was good and efficant with me but not for my partner. firstly my advice if you have a busyor stressful job is not do like him and have his medical on a busy friday afternoon after a very busy week. he's blood pressure was too high and he had to go back to have it taken again. when we went back on Monday morning after a relaxing weekend it had gone down to an acceptabe level. it then took city med 5 days before they finnally told him that the reason that he did not have his results yet was because he had a problem with his heart and had been referred to a cardiologist. queue lots of worrying about not passing and also panicking that he had a serious illness.
4 days later and he went to the cardiologist yesertday and was given the all clear. apparantly becuase he was stressed and nervous the doctor thought she had heard a heart murmur which was the reason for the referrall. the cardiologost confirmed that this heart was absoluelty fine but just tended to speed up under nerves or stress.
Today i handed my application in 7 weeks before my visa expires. my partner needs a tick from city med to say he has passed and then he can hand his in. hopefully on monday
anyway i hope that helps anyone that is applying in NZ or even outside of NZ
Now we just have to keeo our fingers crossed that our visa is extended and then we can really celebrate!
