can anybody help with this :confused: what is the score with luggage allowance ie do different airlines give you different allowances :confused

Yes, airlines vary. As you know who you're flying with, go to their website for the details. Also, it's a good idea to look at the websites of the airport you're flying from or stopping over at.

I have been told to ring the airline to tell them your going to be bringing extra luggage as sometimes there isn't an option as the hold is full.

Different airlines have different baggage allowances and they may even have different allowances depending on different routes, so always best to check what your allowance will be.
If you are migrating then also check if they allow additional baggage as most do, but some of the rules are quite stringent. Seems like the best idea is to get the allowance in writing, just in-case the check-in desk don't agree.
