Well It looks like its going to happen!!!
We are going to be over end of July. We need to rent somewhere for about 12 weeks till our stuff arrives, and I really dont want to be coping without decent bed/couch etc. Would a holiday let be a good idea? (Its winter in N|Z isnt it?)
Can anyone recommend one Nr Wellington (close to town as possible)

You could try some of the links in here for a wellington Bach:

Definitely bargain. We got down to 50% of the initial asking price for a 2 month let.

I've not used this site personally but a few of my Kiwi friends have: http://www.bookabach.co.nz/
Would definitely negotiate on price given its the middle of winter and you'll be wanting to stay for 12 weeks.
Good luck

HI
We used holidayhouses.co.nz. A lot of the people renting them out let us come and have a look at them before we committed to anything. We initially stayed in a hotel for a few days then looked around for the right rental, we also got the rent cheaper as we stayed longer than a couple of weeks so maybe try and negotiate.
Good luck

We found a place through this site as well. It seems pretty standard to have a weekly rate much less than the daily rate. We're paying $600 (plus electricity) per week for a three-bedroom house in downtown Christchurch. The place is very comfortable after we figured out how to keep it warm. Much cheaper and better than a hotel.

Wow, $600 a week seems alot to me; is that fairly typical for winter rates?

We'll be paying about that. Ours is a much smaller place but it is in Devonport. That's fair enough for what is after all a holiday let.

yeah, the good thing about the holiday home is that you're not paying any other bills for the property, so water/gas/electric/sky tv etc are generally included
