Hey everyone

I am 18 years old and am using my mothers account on the forum as I am needing some advice.

We immigrated to NZ 3months ago and are currently permanent residents and I am loving it here... What a country!!!

My best mate, still in South Africa, is studying at university in his first year after just finishing his school education. He has told me that he is realising he really doesnt think he was made for university and all he wants to do is come over to NZ to get out of SA and to join me here.

He has a Brit passport, he was thinking of coming over for a working holiday and if possible finding a job here so he can stay. He is a super car enthusiast and he weould like to do something in the car field. Idealy he would like to come do an apprentiship here but he isnt sure if he will be allowed to.

As he is just out of school he currently has no work experience so he cant get in skilled labour category.

I would really appreciate any suggestions of as how he would be able to come over and get a job here and if NZ businesses hand out apprentiships to foreigners, also what Visa's he would need to come over.

I'm pretty sure you youngsters can just come on a working holiday visa, which are not too difficult to get hold of, I'm sure the NZIS website will offer some useful info on this if no-one here has any direct experience to share.

On a UK passport you can get a WHV for 23 months. After which, if your friend finds a suitable job, they could apply for a work permit and possibly PR afterwards.

Student visa's are also available (study, get qualified, get a job, get PR), but I do not think there are any apprentice positions open to non NZ residents.
