Hi All,

We're nearly ready for the off in a few weeks time. We are going to be on temp work visas for now but EOI is being submitted next week. We are not apparently covered for health care until we have our PR so has anyone bought Private Health Insurance for a short period? Is it best purchased here or in NZ? Or will travel insurance suffice? Has anyone any experience of this? We are a family - 2 adults/2 kids 11 and 13.

Thanks in advance,
Debbie

Depends who you work for... I had a 2-year work permit and got health insurance for all of us - including hubby who was then just a visitor - through work.

You are covered for emergency treatment under the reciprocal health agreement that exists between the UK and NZ. :yes

Which means if you are seriously ill, or have broken a bone or appendicitis they will treat you without charge (except the standard fee of $40 which you pay at the point of entry). Just show your passport at the hospital!
:cheers
