Hi everyone
My husband and I were selected from the pool 18th June.
I am a secondary maths teacher and my degree in maths studied at Cardiff University and as Cardiff Uni was already on the pre-assessed list I did not have my NZQA assessment done for the EOI. As my degree was BSC(Hons) this was stated as a level 7 so again I put this down on my EOI.
Now Im wondering if this is actually correct?
Secondly, from reading other responses I am assuming it takes around 2months to decide if successful without job offer, then when you hear you are successful you get a time limit to submit your ITA. Clearly I will need my NZQA for this part of the application, so my question is how long is the turn around for ITA and also how long does the NZQA take? I am aware there is a fast track.
I just dont want to fork out more money for this NZQA and find my EOI was not successful in the first place.
Can someone out this please advise me and also has anyone done it this way round or am I the muppet!!!
I am blonde!!!
Cheers
Lisa

My understanding is that if your university is on the list, you don't need an assessment from NZQA. In our case, my husband is getting his qualification assessed because it is not on the list (army training) but I have degrees from two american universities that are both on the list, so I'm not doing anything with NZQA. We received our ITA in the mail recently and this requires my husband to get an NZQA full assessment (he's already done the pre-assessment) but from me requires only that I provide copies of my degrees/qualifications. I am the principal applicant.
hope that helps.

Thanks Lindsay, that really helps. So glad I have not bothered to get that done yet!! Are you a teacher, if so, I need to get my teaching qualifications assessed in order for me to get a job. I am hoping to get a job once Im out there so I suppose this could wait till then? How long have they given you to do the ITA? So do you have to get that part successful before you have definitely are accepted or are you more or less certain its all ok?
Can anyone help - do I need to get my PGCE qualifications assessed for the ITA or no? If my degree is already assessed do I not need to get them assessed also?
Sorry but this is getting so confusing!

No, I'm not a teacher. You should check if registration with the NZ body that regulates teachers is required. My profession requires registration, and we received a notice with our ITA that the ITA will not be accepted until I can show at least provisional registration with the appropriate body (NZ Law Society, in my case). If something similar is required of teachers, you will want to get that process started, I imagine, so that you'll have the necessary proof ready when it comes time to submit the ITA. There may be other teachers on the forum who have more relevant information...
We have 4 months to get our ITA back to NZ Immigration, which I think is the standard.
As a side note, when we were in NZ last month there were tons of ads on tv encouraging people to become teachers and even offering a stipend. It seems that teachers are really in demand, so hopefully that will be something in your favor!

Yep, lindreth's spot on... if your particular field/industry requires registration, then I can strongly recommend cracking on with that. OH is a nurse and based on current timescales it's taking on average 3 months or so for applications to get registered with NZNC. As lindreth says, if you do not have your registration for your particular field/industry when submitting your ITA, then more than likely it'll be refused on those grounds.
However, the good news is that when registering with your related NZ governing body, they should assess your qualifications rather than you having to send them off to NZQA... well that's the case when registering with NZNC :D
Best of luck with everything :nice1

Thanks guys - so is there anyone out there who has registered with the NZ teaching council without having to go through the NZQA or do I have to do that first? If anyone has any advise then please reply as I am running out of time before the ITA arrives?
Thanks again

You need the NZQA assessment for the Teachers Council. I did both at the same time and told the NZQA to let the TC know the outcome - which they did, just down the street. You will have to fork out I'm afraid. Do get it done because there's a girl from the UK here who didn't and is having dreadul trouble getting her degree recognised and in the meantime is being paid on unqualified teacher rate ($27K). The NZQA says she must pay again for the assessment.
Another heads up - keep all your qualification documentation handy because although it will be accepted by the NZQA, the Teacher Council and the Immigration Dept, the jobsworth in the Salaries Department won't accept it unless the Principal of your school says s/he has seen it. Most frustrating but I am getting a lot of mileage out of the story!
Good luck - as a maths teacher please stand clear of the letter box when you get swamped with offers of employment. BTW stay clear of a particular
school in south Hamilton.
:)
PS - Muppet, blonde and from S Wales innit? :)

Thank you for that. I will get started with my NZQA application then. So are you saying I need to do both the NZQA and the TC? Would you recommend applying for jobs before moving or wait till we are over there? Where are you living now? Are you teaching? My biggest concern is knowing when to put our house up for sale and whether it will sell in this current crisis!!! Have you bought over there yet or renting?
Also from the picture did you take your dogs over?
Sorry all the questions
