Share your experiences please.
My husband and I have degrees that are on the list, or accredited by bodies on the list that is.
My ITA paperwork is a bit unclear. The covering checksheet doesn't mention needing an NZQA assessment, but inside the ITA it does. I suspect whats inside the ITA might be form text...

Has anyone successfully gotten PR having a degree on the list and not submitting an NZQA assessment?

If I don't need it I'm going to feel such an idiot, but on the upside I can get my ITA off now instead of whenever NZQA feels like sending back my assessment.
I might be assessed at a level 8 so that might be useful too.
And I suppose if I send it off now and NZIS does need an assessment I'll have one sooner or later to send to them. (Don't mind me. Just trying to find ways to turn my possible idiocy into something useful :( )

When I applied (end of 07) if you had a non-NZ degree you had to do an NZQA. But the day after I mailed the NZQA in, I got an email from INZ saying that I may not have to have an NZQA, and to find out for sure I would send them an email copy of my degree and transcript. Then they looked it over and informed me that I indeed did not have to do the NZQA after all. But just to make sure I would email your case officer if you have one or contact someone from INZ (every one I talked to was super friendly and helpful) and see what they think. Better safe than sorry.

It is possible without NZQA and is currently an option for me if NZQA take much longer. If you carry enough points (you will need work offer) and carry enough from the age / work experience, NZQA can be skipped.

You do however need to justify and show why 10 years experience is skilled etc and could take some effort.

I would rely more on the letter with the ITA than the ITA form itself as the covering letter is written based on your circumstances in particular, but to put your mind at rest you could always drop a quick mail to your CO.

As far as I understand it, if your qualification is on the list of recognised qualifications you dont need a further NZQA assessment ( I didn't need it for my degree from an accredited institution)... but if you do have a CO, then follow dusk's advice and email for clarification.

How long does that process take?

I was really confused about this part on the EOI... I have a Bachelors degree from the US... will I need to do this?

We didn't have to do NZQA assessment but am sure I've read (somewhere??) that if it is required to be submitted you get an additional yellow form within ITA pack - does that help???

I don't know what industry you're in, but for example if you're a teacher or a nurse then by registering with the appropriate NZ authority they'll do all the assessing of qualifications for you :D... mind you, $465 to register with NZ Nursing Council I should flippin well expect so :p

Good luck :nice1

If your degree is on the 1080 list then you don't need it. Or in the US if your degree is from an institution accredited by one of the places on the list... Or if you have enough points that your education isn't so much of an issue...

I was confused as when I had looked before NZIS had changed it so nearly everyone needed it, but now they don't I guess.

My wife and I have both got our degree from Arizona and was told by our EOI processor (I asked) that:

"However, all overseas's applicants need to submit NZQA report if claimed points for qualification in area of absolute skill shortage."

The main applicant (my wife) have to do the NZQA. I don't.

Ditto with what NewHope has just said, we are going down the route of claiming points for having qualifications in area of Absolute Skills Shortage, so found out today from CO that we need to send off OH's degree to be assessed as he is principal applicant. If we didn't want to claim the points (:confused:), then we wouldn't need to as our institution is on the list of pre-assessed institutions.

All the best,
Julie

Hmm. I'm not sure what to do really. I canceled our NZQA assessments as after 20 business days they hadn't even started on our fast-tracked applications. The degree is on the 1080 list as well.
Additionally my OH (the principle applicant) was selected with 5+ years of exp in a skill shortage area and his degree is also in the skill shortage area, though they are different areas. We'll see what they say.
We'll be going to NZ in mid-September regardless if the ITA is fully processed or not, so if NZIS decides we need NZQA we will likely have job offers so we can just get around it that way. I don't have any desire to deal with NZQA in the future.

Hhmmm...Have read other peoples experiences on different threads too that they take some time, so not really looking forward to having to go through it ourselves.

Like you say though, you may be in a completely different position with job offers once you go there.

Good luck:nice1

Just to double check something - if I don't have a job offer, I will need to go for a full or pre NZQA assessment? I was under the impression just the pre. Would the pre be faster (I know it's cheaper!).

I will also consider just sacrificing the bonus points for absolute skills shortage if it means I can get around the headache of going through NZQA.

I would say that if you have enough points to submit without a qualification assessment then you should do so, theres enough stress and cost in the process without giving yourself uneccessary headaches! :)
