Hi Everyone. My hubby and I are trying to decide whether to stay or go.... Such a difficult decision and we feel like we are on a see-saw. Would love to hear from others who have settled and how they are coping?? I am a Radiographer.

Hi Roper

We arrived NZ from SA three months ago - can honestly say we have settled so well - of course we do miss family left behind - but apart from that its been a relatively easy path. Let me know if we can offer any advise. Not sure if radiographer is on short skills but sure someone else will be able to give you that advise.

Hi and thanks for the quick response. Yes it is on the short skills and I even have a job offer. I have hed the qualification assessed and am registered with the NZ professional board. We are considering Christchurch as my hubby has a brother there. Where do you stay and how do you find the weather? Are you happy and can you manage financially? Seems very expensive there.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm a radiographer, too. And since you've already dealt with the MRTB, I don't need to offer any advice from that end. I am heading to Auckland in Sept to start my job...as long as I get out of immigration limboland!

Good luck with everything!

Hi and welcome! We have been in NZ 2 months, today, in fact. What a good decision it was.

All I can say is that you will miss the dry winters and family. Everything else really is a pleasure here in NZ.

We lived in Dundee, and have settled in Northland, where the winters are milder, but very wet! Don't stress - making the decision is that hardest part!!!

I agree with James - we in Hamilton and even the rain hasnt troubled us - guess its the lack of it that is the problem. We have settled in well - less stressful and am sure you will settle in. OH has just returned from a visit to Christchurch and said its def colder there than we are - but nothing that a jacket cant keep out. We from Highveld in SA and so guess we wont feel the cold as much as you from KZN.
Send me a PM if you need to ask anything else.

The immigration part is the most time consuming and stressful - the rest is a breeze

Thanks guys. It is great to hear from you. Our winters in KZN are like summers elsewhere...mind you I am not overly fond of the hot humid summers here. We visited NZ in March and went thru Hamilton. Very nice. Must say most places there are very pretty. What is the cost of living like? How do I send a PM???

To send a PM you need to have done 5 posts first, then you're ready to go

Hi

We've been here almost 6 months (from Cape Town) and truly no regrets. The cost of living is rather high, but it depends on a lot of things - how many incomes, how many kids, where you want to live... On 2 incomes and with one child, we feel how expensive everything is, but we cope.

I can't tell you what a difference it makes in your life to live without fear. Good luck!

Ditto what Bergita said about living without fear. The beaches are beautiful, and you are safe to enjoy them, even a lone woman with kids can visit some pretty isolated places. People do not carry guns, there is extremely little razorwire, electric fences are for cattle and sheep, you may not own pepperspray (like I used to have on my bicycle!) and the police really do catch criminals!
