Hi thought we’d pop in and say hello
We have been browsing through this sight and found lots of useful tips.
I'm a kiwi who's been living in England for 9 years and my hubby is Scottish who has been living in England 19 years and we made the decision to move to NZ. Hubby's first visit there 4 years ago he said that he could live there as felt it was similar to his home land.
We arrived back from a trip to NZ end of May and since being back have been like a woman on a mission and have submitted application for Partnership Residency 3 weeks ago (not yet been allocated an NZIS worker yet), and just finalising putting house on the market.
We are hoping to be in NZ by xmas or maybe sooner if all goes well. We will be moving to Taranaki as that is where my family is from.
Through browsing the posts I have seen that hubby can get Haggis and Lorne sausage so he is now 100% this is the right move for us. :cheers
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
One question I do have is we are not taking loads of stuff as we have access to a lot of furniture etc from family but will be taking more than what will fit into the suitcases but by no means fill a container - any tips on cheapest way ship stuff i.e. excess baggage - tea chests
Thanks
Anne & John :)

Hello and welcome.
I bleieve you can opt for a 'shared' container. Not sure of the details though, you'd need to speak to a shipping company i guess.

Hello and welcome - I'm a Kiwi who brought English OH out in Oct 07. We're now in the process of heading back... but nevermind, it's been a fun year.
We used http://www.cargobookers.co.uk/ to get about 40 boxes (mostly books out and they were good. It was about £400 to get from our door to port of Chch, but at £10 a box, we found that pretty reasonable.
Let me know if you need any further info, and best of luck

Hello and welcome!
Depending on how much you are taking with you the cheapest way may be to take it as excess baggage. We are taking 10 bags/boxes 4 of which are included in our tickets so we are paying $80 USD each for the final 6 boxes. We are also mailing 2 boxes of electronics (which is more expensive but will be covered if damaged or lost). So our total shipping costs will be around $1000 USD. Cheaper than any reputable shipping company offered us. (Cheapest Quote we got was $1700 USD). There is also a company in the US called UPakWeShip, I'm not sure if they work in the UK as well. However we read that many people have problems with them and they are not registered with all the shipping authorities so if something goes wrong you may have no way of being compensated, so we chose not to go with them.

Welcome!!!
Waipu in Northland has a strong Scottish connection - so strong in fact that they regularly toss the caber! See http://www.igrin.co.nz/~waipu/ and http://www.turakinahighlandgames.co.nz/
