How do I go about getting the section 18 requirement removed from our permits?
I have a stack of pay slips proving that I have worked/endured the required employment for three months; I take it I send these together with our passports somewhere. But where, how, and to whom exactly? It must cost more money!
Do I legally require section 18 removed, (despite having satisfied its requirements) prior to commencing a different (non approved) job and or self employment? Or is the fact that I have now satisfied its requirements sufficient?
I vaguely remember that I have a specified amount of time to satisfy the said requirement and demonstrate/prove that I have done so. However, having now cleansed the majority of the unduly arduous, turgid immigration process from my mind forevermore, that is all I do now remember.
Thanks in advance:nice1

Hi James - we just in the process of doing all that ourselves - this is whats required:

Send the following by courier to your local onshore Immigration NZ (ctc www.immigration.govt.nz/branch or telephone 0508 558 855

Valid passports for all applicants

Letter on letterhead paper from yr employer confirming yr employment with them for 3 months or more. Letter shud confirm starting date with the business, location of your employment and business contact details. Letter must be signed by a person authorised to confirm the status of your employment.

Copies of a couple of recent pay slips and a recent pay slip confirming yr employment or an Inland evenue Dept summary of earnings (can be obtained from IRD - visit www.ird.govt.nz for ctc detials.

Covering letter specifying that you are requesting the removal of your S18A conditions and including your contact details.

The evidence that S18A requirements have been met must be received within 7 months of the grant of your first Residence Permit (stamped in yr passports at the border when you landed in NZ)

This will all take 20 working days and then passports will be couriered back to you.

Hope this helps

Just rummaged through our Immigration paperwork and when we got our letter to say that our PR had been approved it included details of the Section 18A conditions.

Under 'How to get section 18A conditions removed' it says;
Once you have met the Section 18A requirements please send the following by courier to your local onshore INZ branch:

Valid passports for all applicants
Letter on letterhead paper from your employer confirming your employment with them for 3mths or more. Please ensure that the letterhead contains the contact details of the company and is signed by a person authorised to confirm the status of your employment.
Copies of a couple of recent pay slips and recent bank statements confirming your employment or an Inland Revenue Dept summary of earnings.
A covering letter specifying that you are requesting the removal of your S18A conditions and including your contact details.

Provided you meet these requirements we will issue all applicants with new residence labels and return your passports by courier. Please note that this can take up to 20 working days.

I seem to remember that OH just took it all into the local Auckland branch as its quite close to where he works.

Thanks a lot for that guys,
I never received any written correspondence (hard copy etc.) when my permit was approved (issued in NZ), just a very short email. Our passports were sent back in a small envelope with only a NZ immigration compliments slip. I’ll get all that stuff together and get it in the post.
In the meantime do I legally require section 18a removed, (despite having satisfied its requirements) prior to commencing a different (non approved) job and or self employment? Or is the fact that I have now satisfied its requirements sufficient?
Thanks again :nice1

Here's some encouraging news. I took all the documents to the Hamilton office last Wednesday afternoon. It was shut (3.30pm???) so I just put it in the box marked Immigration NZ. The courier brought it back all stamped and 18A lifted on the Friday at 9.30am.

Not sure if it is a legal requirement - but in terms of making things as uncomplicated as possible, if it were me in your situation, I'd get it done before changing jobs or going self employed!:)

That is encouraging. I travel out of the country frequently and have been wondering how in the world I can give up my passport for 20 days.

Has anyone out there made arrangements to have the Section 18a conditions removed on an expedited basis? Thanks.
