Never thought I'd need one but if anyone has had a really good experience I'd like to find one. I'm living in Eastern Beach near Howick. I need someone with all the answers to the many grey areas, I'm being fobbed off with standard answers by ENZ who only seem to know about standard applications and seem to know less than I do when questionned about anything a little unusual.

Thanks, Alan

apologies if this question makes me a muppett but why do you need an expert to emigrate when you're already there? is your visa running out?

Hmmm, I take it when you mention ENZ you mean this forum... if so, then I don't like the tone of your comments... it's not surprising you've had little help!!!

I think you’ll find he means INZ as in Immigration New Zealand.
I believe he’s in New Zealand on a WTR visa, I suspect his problem is in respect to converting that into PR.

I think that as wonderful as this forum and all its members are, there are times when its advice alone will not suffice and thus only that of a professional expert in the field will do.

Wonder what the "grey areas" are? Might be old Mr Mugabe looking to jump ship! Now that would be a challegen for a immigrantion agent.

Er, guys, I think james the mechanic is right about INZ rather than ENZ. Alan999 is a really nice guy who has contributed to this forum for a while, so less of the fobbing off to him, please :D

Sorry about that, a slip of he key. If I did mean that it would be pretty pointless asking here for help wouldn't it?

A few questions are:

I'm 14 months into my WTR, my wife is still in the UK struggling getting the house ready for sale. This wasn't pre- planned, if I had got PR I wouild have had plenty of time to do this before coming out but having to secure a job offer meant I needed to come out earlier than planned. When I do apply for PR how will this affect my proving relationship with OH. We have never been apart in 24 years of maariage and it is our determination to succeed in NZ that has forced the split on us.

I seem to remember that a medical is valid for 24 months if it has been used in a previous application. I can't find it anywhere, might even have dreamt it.

I couldn't get PR because my apprenticeship papers couldn't be verified (mechanic) and was told that because of that my years of experience couldn't be counted either. However, I see that if my years of experience were necessary to gain experience needed for my job then they can be. If this is so, together with my year working in NZ means I have loads of points. So can I apply again for PR from the start with E of I? If I do and am unsuccessful how will it affect my current WTR?

My daughter is at secondary school in her final a level year on domestic fees but with a student visa. She was, and will be included in my PR but if if follows my WTR then her first year at Uni will be international. I think I have the answer to this (even though Auckland persist in replying to my questions with no answer, then ask if i'm happy with the answer!) but I wanted to know if she started as international would she have to complete all the years as one, would she be able to be domesticated after year 1, or would she change status at the same time as her visa?

When being given my WTR as a lifeline by my case officer she said it wasn't the WTR associated with PR but a different route, but I've never been able to find out the differences.

I've always found ENZ to be extremely helpful with all issues and first place to ask for advice, sorry again if I've upset one or two.

I'll have a stab at some of these questions!

A medical is only valid for 24 months whilst part of a submitted application i.e. when you submit your medical it remains valid for 24 months whilst being processed. If for some reason your visa fails to be processed in this time then you may need to submit a new medical. So, this is no help to you and you will need to have a new medical for your PR application.

You can start an EOI at any time, you don't need to wait for 2 years, of course if you don't wait, then you need to have enough points to be selected. If you are not selected then I don't see how it could affect your current WTR, so I wouldn't worry about that.

For the university fees, I would talk directly to the university as they will make up the policy here. I will say that we were in a similar position and so applied for PR in plenty of time and just before he was about to start we went to Wellington branch and persuaded them to push through the application in time so only domestic fees to pay.

For your WTR difference, I'm going to guess that you were just given a 'standard' WTR which means that after 2 years you can apply for residency without needing all the points. The other type of WTR is given to people who applied for a PR but the NZIS didn't think would settle so they are given a short term WTR to allow them to secure a job and settle, this is then coverted to a PR.

Ahhh, now I understand. In that case I thoroughly recommend the emigration group. We used them, they were excellent. The link is in the quote above.

Good luck

Also regarding WTR you have to have everything done again, police checks for Uk and medicals, I asked this question to the Hamilton branch, you can start applying for PR 3 months before WTR visa runs out, you have to phone the call centre with your details and reference number and they will go through the procedure with you.

With over 600 views it seems to me that others might want some advice as well as me. I used a pin and got in touch with Walsh Law, a firm of barristers and solicitors based locally in Howick specialising in all aspects of emmigration from taking control of the ITA process to all financial/ business aspects.

Within 4 hours of phoning them I had a home visit. The chap had already researched all my questions I'd put to him over the phone and had answers. He suggested that I went it alone again and would be happy to take over if there are any difficulties which he doesn't envisage. No hard sell here.

A barrister was never going to be cheap, but I consider his guidance and advice well worth $125. As a result we're back in the pool.

Hi Alan999,

We are using an agent over in New Zealand for our application and our case manager has been so helpful already having answered lots of our muddled questions even before we signed up with them. Our case Manager is Leanne Climo of Golden Sands Migration, but if she is not there I am sure others may be able to help you. The office number is 03 525 7960.

I hope it is of some help

I thought medicals were only valid for three months. At least that is what I was told and I had to redo them. If not then I just got screwed b/c we just had that redone and I have to have additional tests which I found interesting as I passed all on my earlier WTR application not more the 6 months ago. Good question in regards to your daughter as I am in a similiar situation with my oldest daughter who finishes up in December and we are holding applying for housing etc. pending the return of the PR notice.

He said with it being a new application, medicals only valid for 3 months. As for Uni I had already found out that at Auckland even if they start as International when their status changes we get a refund. However, they also told me that it is harder/ requires higher grades to be accepted as an International so we are still trying to upgrade prior to applying.
