Hi

Does anyone know this for sure - if you're claiming bonus points for a qualification in an area of absolute skills shortage do you HAVE to have a job offer or have work experience in this area of skill shortage. ie do you have to be ALSO claiming bonus points for work experience/job offer in the area of absolute skills shortage.

(just cos I know you have to if it's an identified future growth area plus I know you can't claim bonus points for work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage if you don't have a recognised qual to back it up so was wondering if the same was true in reverse- ie you could have the qual without the experience to back it up)

OK, here's what the manual says:

If you do not have skilled employment in NZ in an area of absolute skills shortage, we may be able to assess your recognised qualification as being in an area of absolute skills shortage if it is listed as a qualification (or is assessed as comparable to a qualification) in the forth column of the Long Term Skill Shortage List (NZIS 1093). You can refer to this list for more information.

In order to show you are eligible for points for a qualification in an area of absolute skills shortage, you will need to provide:

- evidence your qualification has been assessed as comparable to a qualification in the fourth column of the Long Term Skill Shortage list (NZIS 1093), if your qualification is not already listed on that list.
- evidence you gained the specialist, technical, or managerial expertise required for your employment in an area of absolute skills shortage through completion of a recognised qualification (e.g providing your qualification and academic transcript);
- evidence of full or provisional occupational registration if it is required by law to do the job.

So it sounds to me, that if you meet the criteria above you can claim points for your qualification without necessarily having experience to back it up.
