We had our Medicals today, and for those of you in the Greater Manchester region wondering where to have yours done maybe this is the place for you (think Linda & Ali Jax went here too):-
Panel doctors: Dr Million and Dr Smith in a private clinic on St. John Street, which is just of Deansgate, and very easy to find (they send directions too).
Our appointment was at 11am, we were seen promptly by Dr Million, who must be in his seventies and came across as a really chatty 'grandad'. With the girls (age 2 and 5) he simply observed them as they delved into a number of toyboxes :nice1 , then did a basic medical on them i.e. ears, throat, height, weight etc and wanted a copy of their immunisations records. For Andy & I more detailed, but again didn't take long (all within the same room).
We were with him for about 1hour, maybe slightly less, and then Andy & I had our X-rays seperately in a different room. All in all we were there for 1.5hrs. Just long enough for the girls not to get 'bored' :P
The costs: £90 for adults medicals and £45 for the girls, £20 for the bloods and £40 for the chest X-ray. So for a family of 4 it cost us £390; which I believe from looking at other threads, is about the going rate.
Maybe it's worth considering this clinic for your medicals? Send me a PM if you want any further info.
Another item ticked from our 'To Do' list, should be able to submit our ITA in the 1st week of March!!

How's things going? Seems like ages since we chatted. I'll get my act together and call you in the week.
Well done on the medicals.

When and how do you get the results? Does he sign the form there and then, or does he wait for blood test results?

Hi
Both forms (med & xray) get signed straight away, bloods take a week and he said 'no news is good news' they will be posted *SEALED* in a week for onward transmittion to NZIS. *DO NOT OPEN THEM*
Dr Million is cool :nice1 best blood test I have ever had done, and I normaly hate them & feel faint after, but not this time....

Hi,
just thought I'd add a bit about not opening the medicals. Did you get this info from the docs or from NZIS? I did remeber seeing some posts about this before we submitted our ITA, however we got ours back sealed and opended them to use the envelope to send the whole ITA back (couldn't find a more suitable sized envelope for the x-rays). NZIS didn't make any comment about them being opened.
Any way good luck with the ITA.

Andy,
Dr Million said dont open them , particulay the xrays. so you cannot tamper with them I guess. Never botherd to check on NZIS, just took his advice.

Rammer - yes Dr Million is one of kind :nice1 We also didn't pick up on the fact of completing the X-ray forms as well as the main Medical form. Thankfully I had brought extra photo's with me
With regards to opening / not-opening of X-ray/Medical envelope when it arrives - I remember reading a long posting about this a few months ago. There didn't seem to be a problem if you opened them, although some Doctors strongly tell you not to. Seem to remember also that a forum member decided to open them, found that some info was missing and as such was able to ensure all was included when submitting their ITA.
Another milestone achieved don't you think :nice1

Quick Update:
Received our medicals back this morning (had them on Fri 18/2) so took just over 2 weeks to get all returned.
Arrived in massive envelope (because of X-rays), have tried today to buy similar sized envelope to send ITA submission in but no joy just yet. May use the medicals envelope to send all in to NZIS London.
Our medicals arrived in 4 individual A4 sized envelopes with our names on them. The X-rays are within 2 separate folders, but not sealed. In my medical opinion  the look great
Have decided not to open the medical envelopes, as I saw Dr Million and the X-ray consultant complete and sign all relevant sections, so have no worries there.
Hope all other who are hoping to submit before 4th April get their Medicals back in time too. :hopeso

Babette,
Please check this for yourself, but I'm sure I read the other day that it isn't necessary to send the actual Xrays themselves to NZIS, just the report is required. That should reduce the size of envelope you need! Also read that other people have opened their reports before sending them in....how can you not look????? I admire your self restraint! :clap
Hope all is well with yours....my semi naked day on Tuesday!
Have a great time tomorrow with "the girls" and have a double for me :cheers

Hi Marie,
I wasn't absolutely certain it was you. You know that feeling when you think you recognise someone but can't think where from. I was sat there thinking....is it? No, can't be. Then I thought if I speak out loud in front of a room full of people and say Hey, aren't you off the net? They're gonna think I'm a right anorak....which of course I'm not :laugh When will you get your results? I was nervous as hell but all went well....I stepped on the scales and said I've lost 2st for this. Doc said "Well, that's not enough is it" Cheeky sod....anyway, luckily, I was below the BMI threshold so was dead chuffed.
We were there for 3 hrs in total and will get the results in full next week after the blood tests are processed.
May try the 2nd April meet....but sooooo shy! ;)

Really pleased for you Marie. Congrats!!! :clap :clap :clap
Also pleased because it means we should get ours back in a few days too. I've been counting the days on the calendar today worrying about Easter mucking up the post but, hopefully, our meds should arrive here in time. Had a panic attack at 2.30am this morning and rushed to read my ITA letter again to make sure I only had to return it to London and not Timbuktoo! Gawd, with all the worrying and stress this move brings, its amazing all our blood pressures aren't through the roof.
Where do you plan settling Marie?

you must come on the 2nd ,its great to chat to people who don't think you are crackers ,that putting ourselves through all of of this is normal....
take care ,

Hi Marie,
Can you believe we're off to Tauranga too! We spent 3 weeks there last xmas/New Year (2004)to check it out and have been counting the days ever since. Have you been? We're almost certain we'll settle there but intend to take several weeks out when we get there to travel around a few more towns before making a final decision. That was our intention when we went on holiday but we enjoyed ourselves so much in Tauranga that we couldn't tear ourselves away. We managed short trips to Hamilton, Whakatane, Rotorua and Taupo. Taupo was absolutely lovely. A small town in a lakeside setting that's idyllic. I just think Tauranga will hold more for us workwise and our adult kids (who you saw at the Docs) will find more to keep them occupied. I'm happy to keep our plans flexible and work will ultimately make our decision for us. Funny to think we may find ourselves sat in the same Dr's surgery on the other side of the world!
Good Luck
