Did anyone manage to do skype chat with webcam on while on dial-up?
Just had a go this morning by using skype chat with dial-up to my parents and out of blue I can hear some noise in the background (unaware my speakers was on!!:o) so took me while realise it was my mum's typing and mumbles, so I managed to get picture up and running without they was aware of it (as they left their webcam on!;)) till I mentioned I can hear them and mum was holding her cat so they can believe that I can see them!!. It was bit of shock as thought we can't get skype picture because of dial-up. So going to try get our webcam up and running to see if also work or it is too much involved for dial-up??
Feel really good to "talk" to them after long time as it was our first attempt to see if skype chat work :raebanana:raebanana

Hi,
I have pretty shoddy internet, cuts back to dialup when we exceed our daily cap (750MB) which happens a lot!
I have made many Skype calls under these conditions and the webcam image is quite jerky but functional, the sound is pretty good but a little tinny. On the whole you can have a good conversation I think, just try to keep still in front of the webcam (both ends!) so it does not have to send lots of data of people moving, and beware there could be a slight satellite-style delay in voice transmissions.
It's fine really.

Well did a trail run from here in the UK to friends in Australia and had no problems at all. Video and voice were perfect and i was doing it via a wireless connection in our house.

If you can make it work in UK then it will work here. Nothing to change. Thats once you've arranged an internet provider in NZ. i.e if you can surf the web then it will just spring to life with no changes or reconfiguration necessary. Thats the magic of the internet.
Re speed : in the UK we sucessfully made voice calls to inlaws in UK who were on 56k dial up with little trouble. Video functioned but not very good, but you can see people which is the main thing.
