Hello!
My wife and I are in the process of finalizing our move, here's what weve' got done so far:
ITA paperwork is being processed as we speak
House in Canada sold
Storage and shipping for all our stuff arranged.
...
Man, that's a lot shorter list then i expected. I guess the ITA paperwork comes with it a rather large amount of work.
Anyway, we're planning on moving Sept 1st, to Wellington in all likely hood.
My wife is a Primary teacher, and I'm an Information Security person, we were lucky enough to have both jobs on the Skilled Shortages list.
What are we escaping from? Mostly the rut we've been in of late and the ridiculously cold climate. We're really immigrating for the adventure and the change in lifestyle not for any particular dislikes of Canada.
We've still got a ton of questions, hopefully this forum will be a good resource to get answers :)
I've been blogging the entire experience, from the first decision through all the paperwork, so if any others are thinking of moving and are wondering what it's like, you can check it out at:

Anyway, Hi!

Wow, quite the welcome :) I should probably add that we've been in NZ once for our honey moon (camper'ed across the country, great experience) and we're both going over without jobs.
I alternate between terrified and completely ecstatic. I assume it'll be like that for the rest of the summer until we get out plane tickets :)

Welcome & all the very best to you. I suspect like most of us, you'll discover (along the way) emotions you never thought you had.

welcome to the forum. you seem to be doing well on everything but good luck to you anyway. There is a Canadian club in Wellington, they are getting together this evening to celebrate Canada Day at a pub. (its a day earlier here)

Welcome to the forum.
Just like to point out that September and October are considered the worst months of the year weather wise in Wellington. Hopefully won't be too bad, but better to know what to expect.
It will get a lot better :)

Yeah, same with us. I love England and I'm going to miss it, but time for a change. I expect to love NZ for similar but different reasons :)
Welcome to the forum :cheers

Thanks Ian, having come off a winter where I had 3 meters of snow in my front yard, I'm pretty hopeful that Wellington will seem fantastic by comparison. Good to know though, and I guess we'll end up with two summers :)

A big welcome from us too. 2 Summers sounds very clever. What's not so clever is doing 2 Winters on the bounce. Boy are we fed up with dark, cold nights now :roll. Enjoy the adventure :)

Have you completed your "10 things to do in Ottawa before you leave" list?

Heh. indeed, today is the party day of the year, thanks for the well wishes.
The 10 things list is a work in progress, I think we're heading to the war museum this weekend, and we're still working up the courage to go for what turned out to be rather a lot longer bike tour then expected.

Hi! We're in steamy Ottawa too! Happy Canada Day!!! Looks like it will be a good night for the fireworks.
We (OH, myself and three kids, and maybe two dogs) are hoping to relocate permanently to Wellington within the year. We have lived in nz before on a work visa, this time we are planning better (advoiding the pitfalls from last time, older and wiser are we!). OH is interviewing and hopefully we'll get a job offer that allows this dream to materialize within that difficult-to-plan-for timeline of selling house, PR etc. You sure sold fast!! We are out in the country so expect it to take a while, OH is renovating like a madman. Ottawans sure expect alot when they buy a house, we know all that we do here will never come close to what we will buy there...but you sure can't buy the climate and I never want another winter like last one!! ;-)
Good luck with your journey! Its nice to hear of other Canadians emigrating too!

The housing market in ottawa really is quite something. We put in 3 solid weeks of renos full time (my wife just graduated from teacher's college and is not looking for a job until we get to NZ) but it paid off. We got the price we wanted, the date we needed and a minimum of showings. I'm sure you'll do great.
re: Wellington, when we went to NZ on our honeymoon, it was the town that we felt was closest to our hearts. However, we're also looking at Christchurch should wellington not pan out.
