Hi All,

After all the trials and tribulations of the last few weeks and our delay we have now made it to Tauranga. We left the UK last Wednesday and arrived on Friday and the little one's ears where fine thankfully. The flight was of course long and exhausting but was probably better than expected with a toddler. He had a couple of tantrums but slept most of the way. I did feel sorry for a woman opposite us who had 2 year old triplets though! We took a car seat on the plane and I would say in hindsight we didn't really need it. Our son ended up sleeping in our arms most of the time as he wouldn't sleep in the car seat and it was a pain to carry around the airport. We flew Singapore Airlines and the first flight from the UK wasn't great - old plane, not much entertainment - second flight from Singapore was much better.

So we made it to Tauranga - never been here before so it has been very interesting finding our way around. Our motel is a bit out of the way without a car so we are doing a lot of walking until we buy one - we are going to the auctions tomorrow. We are getting a few things sorted though:
- PO Box number set up
- Bank account opened
- husband has met his workmates, done the necessary HR and Occupational Health stuff and starts work in two weeks.
- I had my first job interview yesterday and am talking to some agencies
- we have started looking at rentals - we are considering one right by the memorial park in the hope I get a job in the centre and can walk to work.

Any other Tauranga based forumites interested in meeting up? Please PM me.

A big welcome Guys. We are in Cambridge so not too far away. Give us a shout if you are down this way. We will be coming back to Tauranga when the weather is warmer, we visited a few weeks ago and thought it was beautiful. Been here nearly 3 months so remember the early days very well. :)

Boing Boing! :laugh

Welcome Baggies, glad you got over the probs with the ears, it is a long flight at the best of times. I had an infection this time and on antibiotics - caused a few probs but apart from that ok. There was a little girl with a reflux problem next to us on the way from Singapore to London and she had a terrible time poor thing.

Know what you mean about the older plane. We were on an old 747 from Singy to Auck when we went down and it was awful. The one this time was fine, but the 777 beats the older aircraft.

So, get your bearings, settle down and start to enjoy the differences NZ has to offer to the dirty, overcrowded, busy UK - yes we are really enjoying it here :(
