Can't find the thread, but I think not too long ago someone asked if the schools were okay with parents taking kids out for some weeks. I responded that ours was fine, and didn't make any fuss at all.

However, we talked to the kindergarten yesterday, and it seems the girls might lose their places there because we are gone for more than three weeks (we are gone for 3 weeks and two days)! Something to do with funding, they told us.:(

I believe they are looking at ways to make it possible for the girls to go back to kindy after our holiday, it would be really unfortunate if they couldn't. It would only be for 8 weeks before they start school, but all their friends are there!

I should of course have looked into this earlier, but after the school was so easy (we did that months ago), I never thought kindergarten would be an issue.

So just to add to that recent thread/post, it was easy to take them out of school, kindy seems more difficult!

Yes I have also heard this. Kindy can only hold places open for three weeks, if the child does not attend. It is to do with the 20hrs government funding. The kindergarten will loose it if the child does not attend for a certain period of time.

Hope it does not cause a problem for you. Seen as you are only slightly over the time period hopefully they will assist!!

Could your kids coincidently be sick for the first 2 days of holiday? ;)

Cheers

I was thinking that, too. They asked us to write a letter explaining dates and everything, but I wonder if we then won't have the option of the above anymore.

It's a bit unfortunate that we couldn't go during the NZ holidays, but circumstances at my mum's didn't really make that feasible. So we'll have to live with this. I just wish I'd paid more attention to the small print!

eeeek, you got me worried now... although ours doesnt do the 20hrs free, so as long as I pay that will hopefully be OK, i would hate for AJ to lose his place.. will find out and add into this post....

Hope they find a way round it for you.

I'd have a quiet chat with them, it may be that they just need to cover themselves. So as long as you write a letter covering the 3 week holiday period and then offer to phone in sick for the other 2 days, they will be covered. Of course if there is a long waiting list they may be reluctant.

Have you confirmed whether it is estimated in weeks or working days? Maybe a good way to start a conversation about it again, and ask about some being sick days, if necessary?

If there is no way round it, and if you have more than one child there, perhaps they could share a place when they get back? Just something to offer to show that you are doing your best to find a solution. I know its not ideal but at least they would get to see their mates.

Cheers
