Now over my jet lag enough to start thinking again and report back on our recce trip for anyone interested.

We flew with Air New Zealand via Hong Kong and the flights were great. Hong Kong was hot and wet and i could take or leave it to be honest. Was in Singapore a few years ago and think i would stop there in the future.

We stayed in Auckland for a night and were impressed with the Harbour area. Had a great night in a bar in the Viaduct area and our first introduction to how laid back everyone is and how much swearing there is in normal conversation! This suited me down to the ground as i constantly get into bother here for swearing :)
The band in the pub were calling a customer an ugly ginger *#*$ and everyone including ginger was laughing away!! Can only imagine the riot if that was in Glasgow.

On to Napier and one of the most beautiful towns I've ever had the pleasure to visit. We spent a couple of days looking at houses and we were impressed by the range and quality of properties. We were there a week in total fitting in as much as possible. The wine tour was a great day and i can highly recommend Grape Escape tours to anyone. I loved the ocean spa and sat out in an outdoor pool on the shortest day of the year. Try that in Scotland :D

I made contact with a dentist and spent a few hours in his practice. I liked the way of working and think I'll enjoy my job much more than the health service. Managed to get offered a job that just needs to be formalised whenever necessary for NZIS.

Joanne went for a tour round the renal unit of Hastings hospital and again was impressed. They seemed really keen on her and another informal offer was secured so things couldn't have gone better.

Broke the news to my Mum last night and she was excited for us. Her only advice was not to let an opportunity like this pass us by. So only the in-laws to tell then the rest of the family.

Now can't wait to get the ball rolling and sell up here to get our next chapter started.

Hawke's Bay is a fantastic place and we can't wait to live there :D

Thanks everyone trip was very positive. Obviously not perfect but positives well outweighed the negatives. The press attention on the murder in Auckland and the gang violence in Hastings and Invercargill was disconcerting. Until we realised that, here in Glasgow, they wouldn't really make headlines never mind provoke a widespread national reaction.
Just goes to show the power of the media. Also was impressed by the local mayors who were very outspoken on the news.

For someone who knows nothing about it and even has an active dislike for the sport in this country i even enjoyed watching the all blacks. Very different atmosphere from watching a rugby event here. (On tv anyway never been to one live) Before i'm accused of it, my enjoyment had nothing to do with the opponents :D
