Hi - we are also from SA. Have heard some people have problems with sound. Others manage ok... We asked at Hirsch this last weekend and the guy said it is something to do with NZ using a different sound system so it depends if the TV supports their system or not. SA use the PAL system and they use NTS or something.... can't remember exactly.
Would be keen to see more replies to your question....

South Africa TV standard is PAL I which is the same as UK.
NZ TV standard is PAL B/G where the main difference is the sound carrier which is why there will be no sound.
If you do a search on the forum you will already find plenty of answers to this question.
A lot of TVs can support both standards so check the manual to see if your TV can.
Also, as long as it has A/V connectors e.g. composite video or Scart on the TV, you will be able to use a set-top box such as Sky to bypass the sound problem even if your TV doesn't support PAL B/G so there is a way around the issue.

If you brought your TV from SA and it's working then I agree there's no problem there.
However, if you had bought a different make or even model then there is a good chance that it wouldn't have had sound when used in NZ.
As said before, TVs sold in SA only have to support the PAL I TV standard, so if you have purchased one of these, then you will have some problems.
It is definitely not the case that any TVs purchased in SA will work without problems in NZ.
