Hey Everyone,

Just want to introduce myself. I am a 50 something IT worker living in Grapevine Texas (Dallas/Ft. Worth area). My wife and I are looking to relocate some place other than the US for a number of reasons. We had first considered Vancouver BC Canada, but are now giving NZ serious consideration. From what I see on the NZ job boards landing a job with my skill set should not be an issue once I am in country. Wellington looks like a great place to work/live.

Our current plans are to put the house up for sale in March of 2009, we are currently trying to downsize a lot of stuff we don't need so when we make the move there will far less stuff to manage. With any luck we will be able to arrange a trip to see the country perhaps as early as next May or June 09.

I have been lurking in some of the forums for the past two weeks and everyone seems friendly and willing to provide tips and advice.

Best wishes to everyone and kind regards

-mike

Hey Mike!

I've been on here for about a week and I feel like a pro already will all the advise/info on here! My husband lived in Wellington for a year and we're hoping to get back there. He had a couple friends that were in IT and it seems to be a big need there. If all goes well we would be out there around June 09 as well. Renting the condo out since the market is so bad.

Howdy cowboy and welcome to the forum :D

I remember only too well being dragged along to the Dallas film set by my parents during a family holiday to the US in 1982... I was only 10 years of age at the time and I'm still getting over the trauma of it all :D

Best of luck with your plans and keep us posted with developments :nice1

Hi, Mike--I'm 50-something too--and husband is oh, a Big Round 60--and we're heading out, too. The paperwork has taken almost exactly a year, but we have our visas and are quite excited. We're currently in Beaufort, South Carolina--a beautiful place, by the way--but we're ready for a bit of adventure, like you. Wishing you the best of luck--if we could do it, you can too--Susan

Welcome, Mike and family! You don't say where you are in the fifty-something range you are but keep in mind the age cut-off (55 at time of application) unless you're going in under the investor catagory where I believe there is no age limit.

Good luck with the adventure! BC wouldn't be a bad choice either!

Hello and welcome!

As someone who just got to NZ let me tell you somethings that you may think you might not need to take with you but are a good idea:
Towels, Sheet sets, loads of warm clothes (which granted coming from Texas you'll have slightly less of), and really thick curtains if you have any.
