Apparently they can - a few airlines have already started doing it....much to the disgust of passengers! We've paid in full too so it will be interesting to see!!

So have we. They'll have to fight me for it. Mind you, there's more of them.

The increase is for seats booked after July 17th.
The press release is here:
Media Release - 3 July 2008
Air New Zealand airfares across many routes will increase from 17 July in response to continued high jet fuel prices.
Airfares sold in New Zealand for Tasman and domestic flights will rise by an average 3% while fares to North America, Asia and United Kingdom will rise by an average 5%.
“Air New Zealand regrets having to lift fares,” said Air New Zealand Deputy CEO Norm Thompson.
“However with jet fuel now above US$170 a barrel we cannot continue to absorb the significantly higher cost of fuel, of which this increase will only partially recover.”
The increases apply for tickets purchased from 17 July.

The fare for our flights in Sep have gone up £650 since the middle of the week - we were hanging fire to book them until our blue stickers are here but think I will take the gamble and get them booked.
