Hi
We're moving to Christchurch in September (hooray!). I'ill be working in Sydenham.
We have 3 kids and are thinking of living outside the city. I have been looking at the threads on places to live and there seems to be no end of options.
I was wondering how long it would take to commute to Sydenham from Rangiora?
Any views on communte times from any surrounding places would be very helpful.
Thanks Eve

You will be working near my OH's (Middleton/Addington areas) and we picked Lincoln/Springston areas to live so it is easy access to work (took my OH 20-25mins in the morning/evening) without have to travel across the city to other side of city like from Rangiora. It is depend on how long do you prepare to travel.....

However my OH's workmate live in Belfast and took him 40-50mins to get to work.....hope that help you.

OH travels to Riccarton for work from Rangiora and it takes him about 40mins and most of that is getting in through town :yes Think it really does depend on when you travel cos we can get into Christchurch in holidays and weekends must quicker.

Rangiora to the airport (I drive it every day) takes about 25 minutes arrivng at 9am and leaving at 6. This doesn't hit any (much) traffic. Much earlier in the evening and there will be a queue in Belfast (maybe 5 - 10 minutes).
You're looking at getting across town also so will have to extrapolate but it certainly gets busier.
As suggested Lincoln area may be better (used to be there 6 months ago) which is quite quick into town.

Hi Eve,
I agree with those suggesting you look at the area south of town. The trip across town from the north has got much busier over the last few years and it will only get worse. Rangiora is a very popular choice with immigrants especially Brits but the trip from the airport to Sydenham will easily take another 20 minutes. There is a rather a bottleneck in the north since there are really only two routes in and out of Chch in that direction.

The times of work are he most important factors really .... traffic anywhere at rush hour is silly !

We live in Rangiora

- Our ride to work leaving at 6.50 am takes 28 minutes this is traveling to Moorehouse Ave.

-our ride leaving (work at 5 pm) home is variable & can take as little as 35 minute or the worst trip ever that took 80 minutes (accident had closed roads) .Our usual commute home is 42 mins .

If the traffic seems awful we often go for a coffee or out for tea - as most of the problems have gone by 5.45 pm .Bank Holiday weekends create lots of traffic going north- Easter is the worst that Thursday we usually go to the pictures before heading home .
