Hello David

If you can be more specific then people can answer your questions. Are you planning on coming on a work visa or applying for permanent residency? What is it you do for a living so you can check if its on the long term skills shortage list?

Cheers

Andy

Hi also from SA. I think the immigration companies are very expensive. You should check the New Zealand Immigration website out and see if you qualify for a work visa. You may need to get your qualification assessed etc and that takes a while too. What do you do and what do you want to do (work) in NZ?

I agree with Roper, I have a friend who paid R25 000 to an immigration company and to be honest they have done nothing for him. If he checked this forum out he could have saved himself 25 grand.

$25,000!? That's insane! I think it's easy enough for you to do everything yourself... Just read over everything 3 times and then 3 more times if needed! If you're not sure just aak on here... With all the people on here you don't need to pay someone to do it for you

Hi and welcome. We looked into using an agent, it seems like a good idea at first, like a security blanket. Really you don't need an agent, you can do it by yourselves. We did, and saved all that money to use when we really needed it.

Hello, and welcome.:)

I'd be in BIG trouble!Er, you have noticed that NZ dollars are not the same as US dollars? 1$ US is 1.32$NZ at the moment, which makes quite a difference. Pounds are not so tough in isolation, just 100 pence make £1.

I work as a service manager in a company the does maintanance on boilers, valves, burners , ect. We also clean machines used in prosess plants and do alot of work at fish factories.

I would like to get PR for NZ but dont know if i can at the moment. I would just like to get to NZ and start a "new life". As you can see i am still a bit confused about the whole prosess!

Here's a link http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/ to a page of the NZ Immigration site which will start you off. You'll be able to check up whether you might qualify as a skilled migrant. Or if not, you could go for a Work To Residence visa - get a job, and then apply for residence afterwards.

Welome on board! My advice, as one who has just made the move is to just do it! Spend some time on the forum. Get familiar with the paperwork. Then, do it yourself! If need be, go and see an agent for a once-off consultation. However, we got PR in about a year. Just remember that there is never time to do it properly, but always time to do it again, and try be as thorough as possible the first time around.

Go fo it! It is the best thing I have done in a long time!!!

My best advice is to do what you are happy with. If you feel happier using an agent, then go for it if you have the money to spend on them. Sometimes, things aren't so simple on your application and despite asking for help from all of the friendly experienced people on here and other forums, it may still not clear things up for you.

Yes, you guessed it guys...we are using an agent (:o) but even in the early stages they have proven to be worth their weight in gold and we are happy that they are taking us through step by step (and ok, yes we provide them with the info, but they have filled in most of our EOI and provided us with a shortened step by step guide and fortunately I know now that I filled in our draft EOI online incorrectly!). My OH is a real worrier, and the stress alone just from my hubby makes me sooooooo glad of our decision too! :D

Have a look at the NZIS website and do a draft EOI and see if it is easy enough for you, perhaps asking the kind folks on here as you go along as everyone will be happy to help. In the meantime, maybe shop around with agents to see if you can get a free assessment to help point you in the right direction and if you still decide to go with an agent...choose wisely! Some are VERY expensive and don't offer much more than others on the market for their price but had A LOT of hidden clauses and "successful" fees to add on!:no

Hope this is of some help to you,
all the best with your application :nice1,
Jules

Hi , we lived in the UK for 6 years before returning to SA and then to NZ . We used agents in UK when we applied for residence and had to go through all the paperwork and supply all the documents to agent , only for them to submit it . They are all very expensive , did it all ourselves for PR for NZ . Apply for Unabridged birth certificates and unabridged marriage cert and police clearance asap as it takes forever. Good luck
