Hubby does IT work and gets the impression finding work wont be too much of a problem, there are other IT folk about who are already in NZ on the board who may be able to give you more info.

Get that ITA in the post! We got ours sorted real quick, 9 days to be precise!

Welcome Rammer

Whatever the question you're pretty sure to be able to find the answer around here somewhere.

Where abouts are you heading - and when?

Have you noticed there's a meeting for those of us in the Manchester-ish area on 2nd April? We've met up a few times before and had a great time - try and come along to the next meeting if you can. Feel free to PM me for any further details.

I too am from Wigan!
I'm sure you've got masses of stuff sorted by now, you seem pretty sorted if you've got to the point of sending off your ITA - Well Done!
Any questions will surely be answered so ask away!

Thanks for the replies yall.. :nice1

I am hoping to work in Wellington & surrounding area so living nearby.

I have heard the IT job market is very competitive in Wellington. Anyone any experience of this? I have had a very good response from Ryan & Duncan who are interested in representing me to two companies they mentioned in their Email, Unisys & Sytec. I was surprised it was more than the standard 'see you when you get here' reply.

Then general consensus seems to be 'you goda be here to get the job' so I am planning a 2 week trip on my Jack Jones in May this year & have as many Agency meetings & prospective employer interviews as I can possibly do in that time. As well as sample the delights of this beautiful country! As any one else done this sort of trip? Leaving wife & kids behind - cos it would otherwise cost a fortune in airfares etc and its not even a holiday!

p.s yeah - why is it theres loads of Wiganers in here? where are we all thinking of living in NZ, are there any Wiganers already in NZ???

Ian ;)

Hey Rammer

another pie eater..great

here's the following from Wigan

Linda (lived in ST Helens before leaving to NZ0
Rimbo and Suzy Rimbo (Rimbo is in IT and currently in Nz looking for work)
Jan and Neil also from Wigan Neil has a job and they go pretty soon.
and of course my good self hubby Ian and 2 kids 9 & 6.

There was also a few others from Wigan who have dropped off so I suspect their plans may have changed.

There are also a few from Warrington and Liverpool escaping the rat race too.

You will find loads of info on here but to me most important is finding new friends to go with my new life :nice1 :cheers . not that I will forget my old ones but at least we will all be in the same boat eh! :nice1

Welcome to our world Rammer. You will find the majority of questions you ask here answered. So ask away. As Diny has mentioned we are in the process of organising our 4th NW meet for April 2nd,so why not come along and meet the crew

"Leaving wife & kids behind - cos it would otherwise cost a fortune in airfares etc and its not even a holiday! "
Am afraid this is what another wigganer(Rimbo) said before he flew out a few weeks ago and look at him swanning around NZ like the proverbial tourist. See thread "Reet i'm off" and this guy is looking for a job? i don't think so :laugh :laugh

Enjoy your time searching this wonderful information tool.

Hi Rammer,

There's a few of us out here in Welly - 'fraid we're not from Wigan though - we've moved over from Surrey but I'm originally from Middlesbrough.

We're not in IT (construction & admin work) but there are a few people out here who are - what kind of IT role are you looking for? - Jodie might be able to give you a bit of info on the job scene if she's around on the forum...

Good luck :hopeso

Rammer if you go back a page, you will see a post that says `The first 2005 NW meet` (I think)

It has about 8 pages but will tell you where abouts it is, and there are some pictures of us too.

Have I disguised the fact that I got drove there............
I have no idea where hubby was going but all I can say is it took us about 30-35 mins and was a pretty straight run.

Ah! Remembered The Salt Cellar pub in Middlewich.

I have a green jumper on.

Looks like the 4th April for next meet

Next meet is the 2nd April at Salt Celler, 13:30. Come off at J18 M6, take A54 Middlewich, follow for about 2.5 miles and you will see pub on left hand side. You can't miss it.

Jan

Does Neil know about you spending 4 days in bed with this flu chap ?????

Yeah - it's all set for the 2nd April again.

Just a thought...... between Christmas and new year we had a 'girlie lunch' at the Salt cellar (which turned out to be a really good afternoon). It was basically so we could see Linda before shew flew off to yonder.

Seeing that Jo won't make the next meeting (neither will Ian & kids but I'm talking girlies here)....... does anybody fancy another 'ladies lunch'.

A few possible dates: ..........

Sat 26th
Sun 27th
Sat 5th Mch
Sun 6th

Or any day of the week if a few sickies can be thrown.

It's just a thought ..... let me know what you think.

Welcome Ian :nice1 Hope you guys make it to the meet on the 2nd April. My hubby is in IT too (Project Management) and went to Christchurch for 10days (on his own) back in October. Imagine you guys will have a lot to talk about. Maybe able to pass some leads on to you.

Diny - 6th should be ok, would be great to able to chat again like when us girlies met before, rather than being stuck in the playbarn :wah Will confirm during the week (just catching up on this week's postings after a week at Centerparcs)

Cheers
Babette :cheers
