Hi there,
Has anyone applied for their IRRV from the UK? My partner and I are considering moving back to the UK, he is a kiwi and there's a very strong chance that we will want to return to NZ in the future but we don't think it's for us at this point in life.
We were thinking about staying in NZ long for me to meet the 184 days from each of the two preceeding years rule and then to return to the UK and wait for the remaining time to pass and then for me to apply for my IRRV in England. Has anyone been through this process and been sucessful/unsucessful. I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences.
Thank you,
Anna.

How long have you been in NZ now ?
It may be possible for your partner to re apply in the future under the partnership category if you don't want to stay the full time to get IRRV.

Thanks for replying. We have been here for just under a year - so the first 184 days is done and dusted. Will be here until christmas when we are heading to the UK for a visit and if we return to NZ then I think we would need to be here until about the end of april to get 184 days in the second year. We were thinking about the dates and since it'd only be a few months extra it seems foolish not to put that time in now to save the hassle of having to reapply for PR later. I'm also worried that they migh change the partnership policy and I may not be eligible for some reason in the future (this is probably irrational but I can't help the what-ifs - expecially since we are very likly to want to return one day).

I think it was actually Spudulikes posts that made me think of this as a possible option - I read the old posts about her plan to apply from UK - I sent her a pm to ask but she didn't reply so I guess isn't around anymore. I'd love to know how they got on.
Thanks.

I would say hang in there till next April if you can. As you say they may change partnership rules in the future that meant you wouldn't get the chance again :)

And as a bonus, you get 2 summers :cheers

Yeah - we got two summers in a row when we came out here - the idea of doing that again is appealing! I think its unlikely that the rules would change so much that a NZ born citizen couldn't return to his home with his family - but for the sake of a few months it seems a case of better safe than sorry - never mind having to pay for medicals and application fees again!
I guess I was just hoping that someone would say - yes i applied from UK and it was not a problem. If anyone has/knows someone who did it this way I'd really appreciate hearing from you. I suppose most people one here won't be in that position but you never know if you dont ask.
Thanks for the replies. :-)

Hi, I'm not sure if this helps, exactly, but have you seen this?
Partners of New Zealand citizens
If you are the partner of a New Zealand citizen and do not meet the requirements for an indefinite Returning Resident’s Visa, you may be issued a further two year Returning Resident’s Visa. Your application must be supported by your partner and you must also show that your relationship is genuine and stable.
If you have dependent children, who were declared in your application for residence, they can also be issued with a Returning Resident’s Visa which will be for the same period of time as your Returning Resident’s Visa.
It's in Leaflet NZIS 1005 (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/CAF71A48-28D3-40B8-9D76-5C663CCA17FA/0/1005.pdf)

Thank you, yes I have seen that. We're thinking that we want to go back to the uk for 5-10 years then will probably plan to return to NZ so it's an indefinite returning resident visa that I would need (or hope I could reapply later and be granted PR again), maybe we'll just have to wait until september when I will have been here for 2 years and apply before leaving. The forms seem to indicate that you can apply from outside NZ but you cant apply until your RRV expires (after 2yrs) and if you apply from outside NZ when your visa has expired then a new RRV (indefinite of otherwise) 'may not be issued'. Hmm - maybe I'd have to apply just bfore it expired and hope for the best.
Sorry, I'm waffling on now. :o Thanks for you input Jojo

Hi R & A,
Any updates on how it went with your IRRV application? Are you still waiting for September or in UK already waiting to apply there?
