Hi Guys! My girlfriend and I are moving to the Chirstchurch for a year to start work in Christchurch hospital. We'll be out there the end of August. Not realising there was no hopsital accomodation we're struggling to orientate ourselves around the suburbs, distances to the hospital and places to avoid!! In a galent search to find out about Christchurch I found this friendly forum (thanks uncle google!), and was hoping someone could help us.
We're looking for fully furnished places, near to hospital (walking, cycling) thats in a decent area. Any tips where ot look and to avoid would be greatly appreciated!!!!

We too are still in UK but are thinking about moving to Christchurch. If you do a search on this forum under locations and Christchurch you should find quite a few useful threads.
As far as I know places like Riccarton, Avonhead, Ilam, Burnside, Fendalton are all good and (as far as I know) are not too far away from the Hospital. I think Cashmere, Sumner and New Brighton are good too, but maybe a bit further away from the hospital. I suppose it also depends on what sort of lifestyle you're after once you get there. Maybe somewhere more in the city would be better for you? but I don't know anything about these areas I'm afraid.
Once those already there get up ('mornin NZ forumites) you will get some really good info I'm sure.
Best of luck with your plans. :)

are you looking for a flat or to share a house with others, a friend has recently moved into a shared house on the edge of Hagley Park (just off Deans Ave) that area would be very convenient for you.

We stayed at Park Terrace Apartments for a few months, and is just 10min walk to the hospital. Rent is $425 for fully furnished one bed unit.

Maybe a bit pricy, but reasonable start to orient yourself.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Christchurch has a very good bus system. We live in the Bexley/Brighton area and my partner works at Princess Margaret Hospital in Cashmere. He goes to work on the bus every day with no problems.
Best of luck

Hi and welcome, I live on a quiet street off Bealey Avenue near the junction with Papanui road - a 15 minute 'brisk' walk to the hospital. Have recently tested the hospital out aswell after getting appendicitis a few weeks ago! Spent a week up there, very pleasant! :)
As far as furnished places go, if its just a straight rental, there aren't many around. I was lucky to find this place, only had to supplement the supplied stuff with bedding, proper TV/PS3, etc.. hehe
Cheers, Dave

Hey Ronnie!
My advice would be to find something temporary (2 weeks) before heading out. It will be much better to find something longer term once you are here and can personally check out a place. Supermarkets notice boards are also a good place to find rentals btw.
Good luck with your preparations.
