We were absolutely determined that we weren't going to buy a house until we had been here at least 6 months, the exchange rate had improved and we saw where the market was going. But guess what?? You got it - we have put an offer in for a house, it has been accepted and it is full steam ahead.......
It's Michael's fault really :roll, he just isn't a renting person and I could see his frustration at not being able to do the things he wants to do. Having just retired he needs things to keep him occupied every day and a rental doesn't really give him the incentive. Anyway - the house next door but one from our rental is on the market and eventually we had a peep. That was fatal! So we are going to move 2 houses away - but the upside is that we already know our neighbours!
We have lots of decorating to do once we get in as most of the rooms are a deep shade of aubergine, which goes with absolutely nothing we own, and the master bedroom looks a bit like a bordello :laugh
Other than that the house is gorgeous, with views over the entire world (or almost), lots of entertaining and living space, 4 good sized bedrooms, and a section large enough for M to plant some veggies and keep himself out of mischief.
Now all we need are some friends to entertain...............

Agree about the aubergine, there must have been a special deal on it when they were decorating!
Enjoy making it your own.

See Sorted: Mortgages (http://www.sorted.org.nz/home/sorted-sections/mortgages) for some general mortgage information.
We never had any problems getting a mortgage even when just on a WTR, they do of course want to see evidence that you have a job and proof of the amount that you are earning.
The lenders do tend to want to see some deposit (normally 95%) but may go upto 100%.
If you are on a WTR then they want to see a 20% deposit.

Wow; 95-100% thats some deposit alright! I know we're in uncertain times, but they're really not taking any risks now then, are they Ian?:laugh

Yep, definitely a big deposit, but the only way to be sure...:p
Ok, you got me, you can lend upto 95% normally, but they may go upto 100%
So 5% deposit or none.
Was originally going to specify the deposit but changed my mind, thought it would be clearer, do-h.
