My other half has had her medical information has referred to the Medical Assessor (MA) due to a high cholesterol level 6.2.

It's been 5 weeks now and still no word back from NZIS, although some MA decisions are due back next week, getting just a little bit worried.

Has anyone had a similar level and been referred to the MA and if so what was the their decision?

Have just sent off additional GP report as I had high cholesterol and am overweight. Just wondering if you've heard anything back yet?

Nope original letter said the MA could take several weeks, we are now into week 7 and have heard nothing.

Have emailed a few times and they will tell us as soon as they hear back from the MA but have no idea when that will be. :(

My parents are also waiting on new from the MA - they were told they would have a "quick decision" if they got the results back quickly but that was nearly 4 weeks ago now... hoping to hear this week but by what has been said above perhaps that's too optimistic :(

Yip we were told a few weeks too, it's now into week 7 and they have no idea when the MA will get back with a decision.

I think those with a job offer will be priority cases, and I guess being summer time many MA's will be taking their holidays.

It's the waiting that’s so frustrating :(, even if they could just give a hint of when a decision is likely it would help, and save spending days checking email non stop!

Fingers crossed for you parents, hopefully we will both get a positive decision soon.

Moorf...

We got the all clear from the MA regarding Liz today! :cheers

The extra medical details were received by NZIS on the 29 May 2008 so it's taken exactly 7 weeks.

Hopefully your parents results won't take as long.

Fingers crossed and best of luck to all still waiting.

Hello Peter and Liz

I am new to this site but picked up on your thread re: Liz's 'high' cholesterol count of 6.2

I have recently heard back from my case officer as the further medical read outs I submitted from the GP show that I have a serum cholesterol ranging from 5.7 from the panel doctor medical in Feb 08; 5.9 from GP beginning of July; since gone to 6.5 on 29 July!!, NZI now inform me that they require me to have a 'normal' count - up to 5 is the 'normal count' and my gamma GT is higher than they would like (98). I now have to provide further proof that I am a good bet in the health stakes.

In the meantime I am swallowing a 'fat buster' simvastatin (locum doctor prescribed at my request as my normal GP does not thing I have any other risk factors) and hopefully when I go back to the doctor in 2 weeks time, blood test result will show some improvement. Anyway, we shall ask to the GP to get us an introduction to go down the consultant's route to 'pre-empt' the next request. Time is going by so quickly but we don't seem to be any further forward - like swimming against a raging torrent.

I am beginning to feel that I am on my last legs!! NZI really are watching points so carefully. I wonder that anybody aged 60 years on sponsorship family category gets in!

Would be interesting to hear how Liz went about getting the OK from NZI and from any others who have encountered such strict health requirements re cholesterol and, if so, how it turned out for them.

All the best to you both.

the simvastin should help and sounds like the CO/MA is just interested in getting "better" blood results in your case, not sure you would need any consultant reports.
