Hello everyone,
I'm IT professional from Russia
I've seen lots of forums about NZ, but this one is the most interesting and well visited :nice1
After comparing several countries I decided that NZ is the best place for me. I'm satisfied with climate, salaries, living conditions, it's surely my county. And on top of that I have good chances to immigrate to NZ.
I'm convinced that only kind people may have intentions to live in this grate place, so I'm glad to meet you here :cheers

Whereabouts in Russia are you from? I have been to St Petersburg ...a lovely city! Architecture reminds me of parts of Finland/home.

Thank you for your hospitality :)
Now, about my decison, you are right, I've made it 3 weeks ago, when I got my IELTS scores- 6.5, not enough for Canada. But this is only a half of the story :)
Several years ago when I discovered NZ for myself, I didn't have sufficient points, moreover, my russian work experiences didn't give me points, so I switched into other countries.
Fortunately, after receiving my IELTS results, the mark 6.5 reminds me about NZ. How lucky I was to learn that I'm eligible! I've sent application for PAR recently and now waiting for results.
What about your stage?

Hello wwwdot,
Sorry, I've never been to St Petersburg, but I have been in Moscow many times and I'm impressed of Red Square and surrounding ancient areas. Moscow has many opportunities for me, but wouldn't live there -it is too hard and rush for me.
My hometown is Irkutsk, it's located in the centre of Russia, near lake Baikal, this is a very beauteful lake with picturesque landscapes and views, the water is transparent but extremely cold. Here in Siberia we have -40C in winter, too cold for me. I'm not a penguin actually :D

Hi RD,

You're British, aint you? :) Why are you going to NZ? I mean Great Britain is a great country!

... yes I'm British, but I'm afraid (IMHO) Britain lost it's 'Great' some time ago :yes
Not wishing to go into too much detail, the UK (IMHO) is not an ideal place to bring up a child anymore... our son was born in January 2003 and we made the decision then that we'd move to a better country and ultimately a better quality of life. We've always had the desire of living in France and so decided to sell our UK property in August 2005 and bought our dream property in the Vosges region of France. We had a wonderful time living there and noticed a huge difference when comparing life to the UK... but things are changing in France too :roll
So, before we finally decide to lay down roots we've giving NZ a try... 2 years initially and then we'll take things from there on :D
Good luck :nice1

I suppose I know what you are talking about. Listening BBC radio I've heard a lot about London's bombing, terroristic threats, BSE infection, GM products. It's horrible, especially for children. NZ is protected from all this threats thanks to it's remoteness from hot spots.
On the other hand, ZN has a lot of vulcans near it :(. What do you think, is it dangerous?

Hopefully getting near the end of the application process and with any luck we should get our residency visas by August. Myself and my husband both have job offers (lucky us!) and have booked our flights already, being optimists at heart :)

I'm sure, your hometown is the best place in the world, but what do you like most about Wellington?
