Hi Everyone, We (myself and my girlfriend) have just joined this great forum.
Just wondering if there is anyone in the Newcastle area looking to go to NZ.

We have been talking about going for quite some time now, and are busy researching, would love to chat to anyone in our area about your experiences, get ideas etc.

Hello Helen
Thanks for responding, Was it a long drawn out process or was moving over pretty painless?

HI Darren
Depends on what you call pain really!

We initially looked into emigrating last year but didn't have enough points without a job offer. So for us the only way was to take a chance, sell the house, OH to leave his job and try and find employment in NZ. It took about 8 months to sell the house, then OH came to NZ and got a job in about 4 weeks. Me and the children then flew out and at the moment we are here on work permits. We have just received out ITA and hopefully will have residency sorted soon.

Once we were in NZ things were fairly easy to be honest, after being here for 2 months we are pretty settled and for us it was worth the risk.

It can be a long drawn out process, everyones circumstances are different.

Good luck, hope all goes well.

Helen.

Hi Darren,
Darren here. My wife, two boy's and I hope to be in NZ early next year, before March as that is when our RRV's will expire. We visited NZ in 2006 and 2007 and fell in love with the place.
We currently live in Hartlepool, just down the road from you and have our property on the market but as you and everyone else know the market is very slow at the moment.
The application process initially was pretty simple, it was the waiting see if we were going to be drawn from the pool every month that was nail biting. I am the principal applicant but have no job offer and my skills are not on the skills shortage list. After what seemed like hundreds of emails, telephone calls and more money exchanging hands, I managed to get my qualifications assessed and verified through NZ Qualifications Authority which granted me the points to be accepted. After that it was all systems go paperwork, police checks, medicals etc.. the hardest part then is timing as you only have so long to submit certain document before they expire, it's not rocket science but just adds to the pressure. Then is the telephone interview which was okay, because the good people on the forum submitted previous questions and I had my answers all ready, then it's the waiting game again.
This is just a brief outline of our experiences, which I hope hasn't put you off. We think it is all well worth the effort, it also shows commitment and that you are serious about the whole thing.
As far as the move itself, obviously I can't comment as we are in the limbo stage until will sell the house, but good luck for now and if I can help with anything else just ask.

Hello Darren,
welcome to the forum!
I supposed you are from Newcastle in Australia, then I found Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. There are a lot of towns and villages in Newcastle upon Tyne. Where do you from exactly?

We have no ideal place to relocate, however my work as a graphic designer will probably take us to Auckland, not ideal, but it would be good to get in and then we can start looking around, my girlfriend works in I.T. training.

Are you looking at going over?

Thanks for being nosey

Hiya,

I don't think either of you will have a problem finding work with your professions especially in Auckland, but you never know - keep searching the job sites & expo's etc and you may find the perfect job elsewhere if Auckland is not for you.

Both OH and myself are Marine Biologists and we are hoping to head out to Northland (Whangarei or Dargaville area ideally) or Bay of Plenty. Don't have jobs yet but working on it and are in the process of getting qualifications assessed by NZQA (:() as claiming bonus points in area of Absolute Skills Shortage.

My families roots are from the NE, mainly Northumberland though but have been to Newcastle a few times en route.

So many Geordies! I'm another northumbrian - tyne valley originally. but left for the bright lights of edinburgh when I was 18.

Been in auckland about 4 weeks and it reminds me of northumberland/scotland so far- but with added palm trees and happier people.

Hi Julie!
Actually truth be told - I'm a Northumbrian too.... and we spent the last 7 years of our UK life VERY happily in Prudhoe.... I miss it still.... :-(

I'm from just up the road in Corbridge. But had some pals in Prudda and used to go underage drinking there. Seems a distance memory now!
