Hi Guys

We have just spent most of the weekend filling in the insurance valuation form sent by our shippers.

What a form !!!! Some of it was quite easy cos we know how many sofas we have and how many beds. But quantity of cutlery/utensils !!!! Well having counted all the knifes, fork, spoons etc., we then moved on to clothes. Quantity of UNDERWEAR !!!! Value is not so much a problem, but the quantity boxes were a nightmare.

Then you have those items that are not on the list. That's OK until you use the few blank lines provided, then it is a case of crossing out things you do not have and using those lines. I couldn't find any chandeliers in our house, so I used that line for something as uncommon as electric fires !!!

Then of course the list is broken down into each room. Well I hope the shippers don't expect to find the things in the same room as on the list, because what with emptying cupboards to compile the list and in an effort to group like things together, many items have now moved.

The point I am making is we found the form a nightmare, especially as it has to be completed at least 7 days before the packers arrive.

I wouldn't worry about the detail of the form too much so long as you cover yourselves - we just generalised on everything - obviously we were exact with the amounts of furniture & electrical items but with things like underwear/cutlery etc. we just estimated (they don't count your underpants & forks as they pack them - they don't even use the form they just have a copy with them incase you've claimed you've got something like a grand piano & you clearly don't! They need the form a week before so they can set up the insurance so you're insured on the day the chaps come to pack) - took 1 evening to fill in our form & luckily didn't have to call on the insurance as everything arrived 'ship shape' - but were quite shocked at the finished amount - around £25K worth of stuff!!!!

We had been at the point of selling it all for nearly nothing & starting again - the exercise of filling out the form made us realise that £3K for shipping & insurance was well worth the investment! :yes
